Some of you might be aware of this already.. Others are not. I'm here to shed some light on this, in case you aren't aware of it.
Loophole...?
There's actually something I would call a "loophole" one can benefit from on steemit.. And I truly believe it's something the developers should be notified about, and think about, in case they haven't done that already. Perhaps it's exactly how they want it to be, and if that's the case, I'm glad I share this with everyone who's not already aware of it.
Well, shall we begin?
You can search topics using filters. Like this:
Most of us are aware of it already.
You can also use these filters together with categories. Like this:
You've probably used it or at least you've been aware of it since before reading this..
Here's the "kicker":
You can actually "bump" your topics by doing simple edits. Change 1 letter, change a punctuation to an exclamation point.. Whatever you do, that change will bump your post. I noticed this on https://steemd.com/. What I saw was this:
I knew I made a new post a few hours earlier, but I was totally clueless when I saw that I'd authored a post, with the same name several hours later..
So, what did I do?
First of all, I thought this was just a bug.. So I did some things to make sure I wasn't wrong in my assumptions.. And I was right. I found a way to bump my posts to the top of each category I listed my post in. So, basically, with the use of good tags (categories) I can bump my post to the top, anytime I want.
I'll give you some examples of what I mean..
See what I mean?
Sure, this does only work if you use the "active" filter but I bet there's a lot of people using the filters and using the "active" filter to find all the active topics, and that's why I make this post.. Most contributors also use SEVERAL tags to increase the exposure and that's okay.. But using this like a "bump feature" would definitely benefit some more than others.. Especially compared to those who's not aware of it. What do you think?
Do you use the ACTIVE filter?
Do you think this should be allowed or do you think a limitation for edits would be a good solution to this?
Best Regards,
hitmeasap
Good find... hopefully devs pick up on this.

I noticed this as well since I made a couple additions to my introduceyourself post and it seemed to get a few more upvotes I'm assuming because it started showing up again higher in peoples feeds. Maybe only the first edit should be considered a bump and any subsequent edits should not count. I have no idea how difficult that is to implement though. Obviously people upvoting or commenting on your post should still qualify as "Active".

I agree with you. Upvotes and comments should be considered active but making billions of small edits on your posts shouldn't. No matter if this is a "loophole" or not.

It's not a loophole. I don't see any problem. Nobody is using active, they all use trending and new. Also we have to power to downvote tag abuse.

I would love to have all tags be attributed to the post equally as the devs come up with a fix. My 2 cents.

Yeah, my only intention with this post was to make the developers aware of this, so they can make the proper changes, in case they feel it's necessary.. My second intention was to make other users aware of this, so they can benefit from it too.. I'm all for things like this, as long as it's fair play.

You are welcome. However, the main reason for this share is to make developers aware of this, and in case they are, then it is to make everyone aware of this feature, as this could benefit people.

I didn't knew you could bump yourself...usually the new post add up pretty quick and the post you make is not so visible

Exactly. All the new posts "vanish" as new content are being created every minute on steemit, so you'll need to get attention from whales, dolphins and a lot of other people to get your topic going. Both when it comes to upvotes and earnings but also when it comes to getting a discussion going. That's why I share this. I share this so the developers can do something about this or so that everyone can use this same "loophole" to get more exposure for their posts.

I didnt know about bumping but I find the active filter is the only way to show content you are interested in seeing. Anything else and you just get a list of random crap.
