The best way of promoting @steemit, is very different from a strategy you would use for a business selling a product or service. What ultimately fuels @steemit is users. Therefore, the more existing users evangelize this platform (even though it can be annoying for other people), and encourage their friends and family to sign up, the more growth @steemit will experience. Also, helping the core developers improve the platform by giving them valuable feedback, will make sure that people won't leave, as a results of the platform not meeting the community's expectations and needs.

Yes, we have to work on growing the platform. In 2008, Barack Obama had something like 100k twitter followers, which is nothing in comparison to what a newly elected US president has today. It takes time and a lot of hard work, but with enough users and commitment for growth we'll get there.
