Up to a few days ago I didn't even know how Steemit worked exactly. And as I'm beginning to understand more and more how it works, I'm thinking that it may become a solution for many companies that are looking onto platforms to promote knowledge sharing between their employees. Below I will explain why I think so :
1. Big companies need to innovate to remain competitive and need to wisely choose their colloborative platforms
Most of the day, unfortunately I'm not blogging in Steemit, but working in a big company in France with thousands of employees. As it often happens with big companies from this size, it becomes more difficult to gain agility and to quickly have answers to your questions. In my specific case I daily have questions about our IT softwares, about our processes, about what we can do/or not do according to new reglementations that have appeared, etc.
Most companies want to show that they are tech-friendly, and so, in order to seduce the young generations we have many platforms (kind of intranet social platform, documentary bases, etc). But in reality none of them are really satisfactory.
2. Companies need quality insight from their employees, the challenge is to encourage employees to be involved and share with others in collobarative platforms.
My department had a basic documentary base, but it was too general and couldn't answer particular questions for different situations. And the person that had the answer to the problem was not always the same expert: sometimes an expert had the theorical answer, but it was useful to have insight from another employee in order to have the practical view.
So with my departement we thought that we needed a platform where we could post questions and answers visible for all, and where we could post new content (like competitors' analysis for exemple, or suggesting new ideas). Indeed, we had analyzed that the knowledge remained among a few experts and needed to be shared (and capitalized) with others.
3. Companies need to reward fairly in order to keep employees motivated and so that the collaborative platform continue to be fuelled
This discussion was a few months ago and my boss had decided on using Sharepoint, as apparently it was rather simple to use (no external costs) and often used by other companies.
But now I have discovered Steemit! And I can't help but think that a platform like Steemit would be way more stimulating to promote knowledge and sharing tips between employee !
What do you think? Have you encountered the same problem in your classic job?
