Breaking it down.
The index is breaks down blockchain technology into three criteria: Technology, Application, and Innovation.
Ethereum scored 23.7 in application due to its nature of being a general purpose platform, while Steem only received a 9.4.
The total difference between Steem and Ethereum, or between rank 1 and 2, is only 13.5 points.
How would EOS stack up?
If we were to keep the exact same scores for Technology and Innovation as Steem, but increase the application score up to the same as Ethereum, this would give us a score of 130.3 for EOS.
Making EOS the number one blockchain.
Bounus: Bitshares is ranked 12, one spot ahead of Bitcoin.
Strangely, it received a mesley 7 for innovation...
I wonder if they attribute the decentralized nature of this chain to it's lack of innovation? I mean, BTS is great tech, but putting it simple I'm looking forward to bench carrying it to possibly smart contracting possibilities. And the voting block isn't doing that as far as I'm aware. That's simply the bench team.

Sorry but I'm too familiar with Bitshares.
Are you saying that Bitshares might implement smart-contracts?

no but the eos chain might open possibilities. it is unknown the end result. there is talk about a bench bts 3.0 you should read into this :)

If level of decentralisation was the determining factor, Bitcoin would be jumping straight up to one. Probably with Monero as number two.

Bitcoin is an open-entry system, meaning anyone can participate, or start mining.
But having three mining pools controlling over 51% of the hashing power isn't exactly decentralized...
