This time I travelled with my cousin and a friend to Verona. After a long walk from the train station in direction to Juliet's house, we find the Scaligero bridge or Castelvecchio (old castle), which is linked to the Castelveccio fortress (Venetian dialect) ) and is one of the 5 bridges of the city of Verona, through which the Adige River passes.

The city of Verona is known worldwide for:

  1. The Arena (Roman amphitheater) where majestic concerts of music of all genres take place, from opera to rock, and performances.
  2. The Roman theater of the 1st century, archaeological museum, in summer time is used as a theater stage.

  1. Juliet's house, is the main tourist attraction of the city, owes its fame to the tragedy of Shakespeare "Romeo and Juliet". In order to reach the most popular point of the house "The balcony", it goes through a corridor, which has its walls full of messages of love, or desires left by tourists according to tradition.

To get on the balcony you pay a ticket and wait your turn, that day despite the cold and rain there were many visitors, under it there is a souvenir shop.

In the courtyard of the house stays the bronze statue of Juliet, says the legend, if you touch one of her breasts you might return to Verona or find true love. And well I tried to see which one becomes true.

A few meters away is the "Piazza delle Erbe", the largest and oldest in Verona, where the street market is held, and where many cafes and restaurants are located, after so much walking, we decided to go there for lunch and the plate that I tasted was "cottecchino and brovada", although it is a typical food of the region of my grandparents Friuli, it was served here in the Veneto region to me. Exquisite!!!

This dish is preferably consumed in the cold months, because of its high caloric content, the brovada is the finely cut turnip and macerated in the hard liquor taken from the fine skin of the grape, and the cottecchino is a large pork saussage which has to be cooked before eat it, it is usually eaten in the New Year with lentils.

Buon appetito!

[Photos taken with my cell phone, context about the city of Verona taken from my study books, and the gastronomy one from what I learned with my family and the times I have eaten it].

Ciao, ciao!
