Steem Economy ThoughtssteemCreated with Sketch.

The Steem economy and the "regular/retro" economy share some of the same basic problems in my opinion.

As I see it, the curation system currently inspires people to A: either vote for themselves (puppets) or B: vote for people's posts that are known to get high votes. This is very similar to the regular stock trading system.

  • Option A: creates inflation in the Steem economy

  • Option B: pools the economies resource's to the hands of a few overpaid accounts.

Ideas:

  • Considering option A: Self voting should probably be frowned upon and highlighted since it creates inflation. (I also self vote on some posts and am wondering if I should stop.)

  • Eliminating curation rewards would fix the problem of option B and inspire people to use their votes on posts that they actually liked.

I'm working on a longer post about these thoughts. Any suggestions on thoughts to include are welcome.
