I've been fascinated by the growth of STEEM related apps. Recently I started hearing about the first app o launch on SMT called APPICS. I think a great deal of interest in the the STEEM blockchain is going to come uot of different applications on top of it. STEEM is the Ethereum for all social media. I know there is TRON and some other competitors. But STEEM is the first mover and according to http://www.blocktivity.info STEEM is the single most used blockchain on the planet. That's accomplished with merely 0.15% of the total capacity of the blockchain.
Little bit of Backstory
I got the idea to start this series of posts from mainly 2 things. One is Alexa.com which is owned by Amazon and the other one is lendedu.com
The bottom line is that there are so many ways people would invest their money. Different people are attracted to different things. When it comes to STEEM, most people just use steemit and some use Busy and naturally people get into DTube. But the blockchain has many front ends. I was curious to know how people were attracted to each of these websites that are based on. The results were genuinely surprising.
Let's meet Zappl
Zappl is our native Twitter killer that attempts to be the decentralized micro-blogging platform of the future. Their business model is basically making a blockchain based Twitter clone and getting 15% cut from the rewards. In a way it's like an App store. You post content. People upvote and Zappl gets a part for offering you the services. They also have a witness.
Say Hi to Stats and Be Surprised!
If you think you know about STEEM stats, be prepared to hear something you wouldn't have ever expected. Bangladesh is HUUUUGGGE for Zappl. Seriously...........
The site has moved up 216,972 ranks in the last 3 months and that's really great. Bangladesh has 162,951,560 population that is the 8th highest in the world. But here is the thing. When it comes to GDP (PPP) Per capita, Bangladesh is 139th and without Purchasing power parity, it's actually 148th in the world.
This is not an Outlier
52% of the Zappl traffic come from 3 developing countries with very high population. Let that sink into you. 52% of Zappl is just Bangladesh, Indonesia and Kenya. I don't know if micro-blogging is more attractive for people who don't speak English well and don't have much internet content on their native languages. But it's an interesting phenomenon.
Not too engaging
This one probably wasn't too surprising. Zappl is just short. These are based on the last 3 months. Bounce Rate (%) means Percentage of visits to the site that consist of a single pageview and it used to be at 80.67% That's not a good stat. Maybe some people are just interested in making few quick bucks. Maybe most big content creators are not interested in producing short content.
This actually brings me to my last point.
Google is HUUUGGGE for Zappl
24.5 % visitor are from Google related websites. google.co.id is the Indonesian version of Google Search which is the #2 website in Indonesia. Although Busy.org gets far less traffic than steemit, it is contributing almost as much as steemit.com
You are free to interpret the data. I'm not an expert in analytics. I just hope I showed you an interesting perspective about the STEEM blockchain. I know that I was surprised to see these facts. So why not do some resteeming for more people to see :)
Lucky enough Zappl has had very good support from southeast Asia and Asia countries. Its also one of the most productive regions when it comes to comments for zappl as well.

Best part is that Asia is developing fast and they already have 60% of the global population. Twitter can't sustain their business with all the censorship and loosing money. Even the stock has fallen almost 55% since the initial IPO craze.
BTW are you planning on a SMT? Really excited for the future :)

That bounce rate isn't surprising. Basically, people find a post in their search results, they click it, read a bit, and go back. There's nothing enticing them to click more.
Same thing with here. If you just stumbled across a post on here, would you be prompted to click Trending or Hot?

I do zappl a lot especially the contest made by one guy, using the #zapfic tag, but the people there aren't from the western world, when I saw the data it opened my eyes to it all.

I'd say that the entire world of blockchain is really interesting. Zappl is a global platform and 52% of traffic is just coming from 3 countries. Who would have thought........

I wonder if the zappl bounce rate is because it doesn't work with older software. I tried it a while ago, but couldn't get it to post anything.

Didn't see that one coming. Less popular ones seems to have the most interesting stats.

I guess I'll be making more of these analysis posts. I'd put more focus on less popular ones as you said :)
