Steem is cheap, so powering up on steemit is cheap.

Powering up gives you benefits of visibility, choice and influence.

I have a long term goal of being a whale, and having a substantial amount of steem powered up in my account.

Now it goes without saying that the best time to get Steem is when it's cheap - but that includes steem gained through steemit.

At the moment, there is almost parity between steem and SBDs (steem-based dollars). That means they almost cost the same. Which means that when you receive SBD rewards, if you have ambitions of building your steemit presence, now is a great time to be turning your SBDs into steem and powering them up.

The benefits of powering up are:

*on reaching 500 steem power (and without delegating any of your SP away), you get to use the slider. This allows you take control of how much you reward posts and comments
*by building your steem power (SP) you start to have a positive influence on your reputation because as you spend time curating and rewarding the work of others, others start to notice you, and start rewarding your own quality content
*by rewarding posts you like it pushes them up the list of posts in their tag lines - this gives you influence

If steem stays at this level, you will be able to increase your steem power much more cheaply than you were even 2 weeks ago.

So if you want to be a player on steemit take the opportunity to power up!

Comments welcome and rewarded!

Cheers

Thanks for this informative post..it will help the new steematians like me to understand the system better .

No worries!

Thanks for the advice, I recently started putting all my steem rewards into SP and hopefully I'll see the benefits soon, still a minnow though!

Yep ☀️

I think the 'minnow' tag is fairly broad through - it technically captures anything in a wallet up to 10,000 SP

So I think we've all (well most anyway) have a ways to go. ... 🙃

Thank you for this tip. :) Looking forward to more of your posts.
