If You Were Given One Million STEEM But Had To Give It Away, Who Would Get The Awards?steemCreated with Sketch.

I saw this post about such a dilemma. What would you do?

Please see the Original Post by @nepd.

1 million Steem today is very different to what it was a few days ago.

Having said that, one thing the past few days has demonstrated is that the price of Steem is largely irrelevant on a day-to-day basis. Steem should be set upon a path of multiple growth patterns via new Steem markets.

This is simply my take on it. Yours will, I am sure be very different.

img

Here is the question posed: "you are given 1,000,000 STEEM, no questions asked. The only caveat? You have to give it all away. Which worthy steemian(s) will get your support?"

My immediate answer is ... nobody. BUT ... wait there!

I would set up a separate account and, for sake of argument, let's call it @steemitlegacy.
Clearly this account would need high quality management. One would want a solid team to identify and execute the appropriate strategies in terms of accounts, voting, curation, etc.

img

The purpose of the account is three-fold:

  1. Maximise the potency of the account so as to make it self-sustaining whilst donating funds at a prescribed level..
  2. Fund people and worthy projects initiated by steemians. This would provide an excellent avenue for the platform to demonstrate its 'heart'.
  3. Fund people and projects totally unrelated to steemit.com - one of my observations is that the platform is very inward looking. There is a whole non-steemit world out there. Social Media should be socially inclusive. Social Media should reach out to those less fortunate. Otherwise, it can scarcely wear the tag 'Social'.

There are a number of issues which would arise in the management of the account: Conflict of Interest is the most obvious.
Without boring you with details, there are numerous ways to get around this but it should be recognised.

A Community sourced committee to preside over the Allocation of Funds would equally need to be set up.

Imagine a Youth Group in outer LA, sponsored and mentored by steemit.com, teaching street kids how to invent blockchain apps which expand the steem economy! I believe that the PR story looks OK.

The account could also accept donations from steemians and non-steemianson an on-going basis

Thank you @nepd - it creates a win-win scenario, invites engagement beyond steem counting and encourages an outward looking disposition.
We need a bigger vision of steemit for it to be a healthy entity.
Namaste and thank you again.

You are welcome - would you mind linking to the original post in yours as well? Purely optional, but it would be great to expand the conversation. Cheers!

Should have done that in the first place I shall edit yours in now.

Thanks!

Thank you @animus for those kind words. Following you too!

Probably sell some to pay a programmer to port dobrobot from Golos over to Steemit, and then use the rest to make a fund for it that pays a Steem tip to everyone I upvote.

I love the way you think, though I do believe that your concept falls under a slightly different category!!

I would give it to @thecryptofiend. I think they would make an excellent whale, so the entire community would benefit.

I agree with you.
He would be at the top of my list as governors of my fund.

I would like to give it to spread it between some children homes.

I would too! Great idea.
I think this exercise is showing the need for such a fund. There is a myriad of applications.
To me, a fishing rod and fishing lessons is better than fish. There are a great many wise heads out there and we could make a great impact.
Namaste.

That is very true

@steemitlegacy Post

Yep, he is a really good guy and would be a recipient of assistance from the fund. As would a few others whom I will not mention here but have equally deserving situations.
What is coming out of this is that steemit, as expected, is a replication of real life and we should be behaving here as we should be behaving out there.
Thank you @nigelmarkdias for your comment. I think we are just exposing the need for such a fund . Respect to you as ever, my friend.
Namaste.

Very cool idea, however I would choose more pressing eeds like the 700 million who are chronically undernourished, by distributing steem to these 700 million chronicaly undernourished who go to bed hungry everynight EVEN in 2017 Well by doing this we could really put a dent in that problem! The problem isnt lack of food, the food is readily available everywhere on earth, the problem is money or a lack of money! (or lack of land to grow the food but land is so expensive we arent gonna be bying everyone a plot of land BUT we can give $1 million of them $1 or 1 steem each and have them save it and evetualy it will be enough to feed them like $1 a ay but ALSO prepai mobile smartphones need to be given to each and everyone of them with prepaid data and minutes, and wth the new spaceX mesh network new global backboee satelite internet network, we can allow anyoone earth no matter how remote or far from a cell tower to acually be able to send and recieve bitcoins! I looked it and theres 10 times as many smartphones as humans on earth! Theres enough for everyoon oneof te 700 million people who go hungry everynight and the smartpone and its premaid minuts and iternet would allow them to pull thsmeoves out of poverty as well!

I really believe this is the future of the blockchain, solving HUGE problemsthat noone could solve before! It all about money, and access to it and creating more opportnities for peopel to hold a REAL Non fiat NON inflationary scam paper currency bitcoin allows people to take their own finacial estiny into their OWN hans instead of being held hostage by the federal reserve and central bankers!

lol and let me guess, YOU would be in charge of this account? LOL NICE try! But a million dollars isnt gonna come that easy! Youll have to at least post a few times a day for at least a few months before you make your first million here on steem...lol others have done it...especialy people who invested $100,000 in steem just a few weeks ago when steem was 10 cents! now its over $1!

$1 STEEM equals $1 what a glorious day!

Now when people send 1 steem you are sending 1 dollar! a great milestone!

@ackza, firstly, may I say thank you for your brilliant and well-thought out reply. If only we had such resources!
As it is I have plonked 60 steem into the account as a starter. More importantly, I want people to see that it is THEIR account as a member of the steemit community. It is theirs to shape and to mould and to manage into a self-sustaining source of succour to those in need both on and off the steemit platform.
My own view of the world's ailments are clearly aligned with yours!
By the way, mobile phones are the most profitable source of gold. China processes most discarded mobiles. It is estimated that 40% of food in the western world is thrown out!
To me, the empowerment of women and the expansion of micro-finance are key initiatives to bring about a happier world. Education should be delivered globally on the blockchain using alternative energy in the poorer areas for distribution.
Enough of that - I would be very interested in reading YOUR post about how a steemit legacy fund should be designed, managed and executed. Would you do that?
This fund is not mine - it is a member of the community and it needs to be raised from infancy into a bold future!
Namaste

HAHA you clever sly generous dog you @ebryans

Thanks, mate! By the way, rather than talk about it, I started it - minus the one million steem - just 60 for now - it needs people to engage with it ...
I look forward top your post with your ideas!! No pressure.
Initial Post

Highly rEsteemed! Great concept to brainstorm as there are quite a few Steem millionaires out there who COULD be doing something similar to spread adoption. Very appreciated post. Thank you my friend.

Thank you, my friend.
I appreciate your comments very much.
As I just replied to another comment, life for steemians is just a reflection of the real world. We should take pains to remember that and to conduct ourselves accordingly.
The 'marketing' department will, no doubt, plagiarise this idea and call it their own - even though I suggested it months ago!!
Namaste!
