Easy Guide To Cash Steem Dollars for BTC

in steem •  8 years ago  (edited)

Hello friends, I hope you are doing well.
Several of you have approached me to ask me how in the name of the Lord I have been able to cash my Steem Dollars so I figured the need was out there and I am creating this easy guide for you to be able to do it in a jiffy.

The very first thing one has to do is to open an account with a trading platform for crypto currencies. I prefer Bittrex.com. I have been using it for a while and it is very reputable and easy to use.

So, go ahead and open your account there, its easy and very safe, no need to fear.
The first thing we are going to do is to retrieve a “memo” to be able to send Steem Dollars to your Bittrex…
Once you are in, click on “wallets” right under this.

Here, type on the search bar: “Steem Dollars” and it will only show that option.

Click on the “plus” sign next to it and get the “memo.” Copy it because we are going to use it soon.

Go back to your Steemit account and go to your wallet. Click on the downside triangle next to the amount of steem dollars and click on “transfer.”

This window will show up next

Type in or paste your “memo,” type bittrex on the “to” section, and add the amount you want to send.
I would suggest you do your first try with a small amount in case you make a mistake somewhere along the process.

Once you click “transfer” go check your email to see if you have a pending transfer permission you need to approve.

Quick tip: you will not need to get a “memo” every time you do this… you can use the same “memo” every time. Below the wallet you will see the history and it will save the “memo” used.

This is the coolest part of all. Here you get to trade your SBD for BTC.
Click this link and it will take you to the trading platform.
https://bittrex.com/Market/Index?MarketName=BTC-SBD

In the middle of that page, on the right side you will see this:

Under “Units” click as much as you want to sell. You can always click “Max” to do all of it at once.

Then click “Price” and set for “last” since it is the latest trading price.

The last step here is to click “Sell SteemDollars” which is the blue button.

You will see this popping up:

Click “confirm” and go back to your email to confirm the sell. This might take up to 5 minutes. Don't dismay.

At this point, you have sold all your SBD and now have BTC in your trading platform.
What you need to do now is send that BTC to where you can use it/spend it.

Click on Wallet at the top menu again. Search for “Bitcoin” and click the “minus” sign. Once that window shows up, populate the address and the quantity. You can always click the blue arrow to have everything at once.

There’s one thing, it does cost to do this process since the trading platform has to make money too. Once you are sure and ready about your decision, click “Withdrawal” and you will be almost set.

Check your email once ore to verify your withdrawal.

At this point, you should have your BTC in your personal wallet to be able to use or trade for USD or any other currency.

I hope this guide was helpful for you.
I want to extend my gratitude to my friend John Rilinger because he was so patient with me and took me by the hand and explained the process the first time I went through it. I know it can seem daunting and make you feel inadequate. Be gentle with yourself, you got this shitte.

Please, upvote this and let me know how it works for you. If you think this was just amazing, I'd take a few bits here: 13UTqHQcJt4JritZsDrUGe3aBHFaVzfn5x

This way is much easier.

Thank you, @emancipatedhuman, for such a detailed guide. I had been googling this earlier and had given up as the explanations I came across online were rather convoluted. Are you Portuguese by the way?

I am very glad it provided what you were looking for.
It is certainly easy but not intuitive.
I am originally from Mexico City. Why?

Your name--Luis Fernando is very common in Portugal. I have a distant cousin with that name although he goes by Luis now.

Actually, Luis does speak some Portuguese @florentina, isn't that right Luis? :)

oh gosh, very very little. i understand more than i speak.

Yes, I use bittrex as well, and it's been very reliable for me thus far. I only wish I'd had more opportunity to exchange more SBD :P

haha, yes, i am there with ya.

Thanks this is just what i needed.

ty for that great and clear explanation !! Tell me something, i have since i,ve been here ( six days )pumped up my steem power by 135 SP !! At this rate i think i can expect say 650 SP per month. May i power down just this amount to be converted into steem to be then later into Btc, so leaving my original quantity of Steem Power purchased intact ?? would be great if you knew !! thanks... ; - )

When you initiate the power-down sequence, you will receive 1/104th of your total steem power in a week's time. This payout will repeat every week until either your steem power has been depleted or you manually cancel the sequence.

I would rather keep my steem power intact since it gives you more weight on your comments, posts, and such. but that's just me.
thank you so very much!

yes i know this to be true, but is what im saying possible actually is just my question ??

i honestly do not know if it is possible.

ok well no problem, i realize that its a pretty complicated problem, would be great if were possible, as then i could leave my investment in place while reaping some benefits as things develop and go forward !! thanks for the reply ; - )

Thanks Luis! I'm not there yet and haven't even tried to figure out how to do this. Appreciate your insight.

This was absolutely fantastic. Thank you sir for the helpful guide, and I'll be using it in the future!

What is the difference between STEEM and Steem Dollars on Bitrex?

You can do this on Poloniex.com also.

  1. Log into your Poloniex account.
  2. Go to Balances | Deposits & Withdrawals
  3. Select SBD (steem dollars) as the coin then deposit.
  4. You'll get a memo field deposit code and who to send the steem dollars to (poloniex)
  5. Go to your wallet in steemit.com
  6. Click the drop down list next to steem dollars and choose Transfer
  7. Put poloniex into the To field, the memo code you got from Poloniex into the Memo field and how manu steem dollars you want to transfer into the Amount field.
  8. Click the Transfer button.

You can convert your Steem Dollars to BTC directly once the SBD are on Poloniex.

Done

Thanks!

thanks this has been helpful, but is the address the same as the memo

So I did your steps and transferred to "bittrex" and put my memo in, but instead of sending me an email it looks like I just transferred SDB to a Steem account called "bittrex". "Bittrex" has over 16 Million in Steem. Is this a scam?
What am I doing wrong?

Nevermind, it appears that it doesn't send a confirmation email at all. It just transfers.
