It's supposed to be a publicly accessible blockchain. Steemit is no the only way to access the steem blockchain. It's just the one that comes from the developers/investors.

You should. You might want to cross post, or someday publish a book or something. Or just to keep your work for yourself. That way you don't have to come back to the block chain to reference that work. Immutable or not.
Looks like people are having problems posting to this blog post. I notice because people are double posting thier comments, which is what happens when you continuously keep getting 'transaction broadcast error' when posting.
