Chronological protection of Steem Blockchain governability

in steem •  5 years ago

As many people already know, our network has vulnerabilities regarding governability and I already addressed those in another post.

Another user(@onealfa) posted an idea that made me consider another point regarding security.

I disagree with his position of valuing more votes from older accounts, but I think we should have a chronological safeguard to prevent another Coup d'etat in the Blockchain:

The Idea:

  • All SP influencing the account, acquired by either Power Up of Delegation should have a 7-day gap before beginning to affect Witness vote positively;
  • All votes casted to witnesses should only be computed 2.5 days after been casted.
  • Power-down, undelegation or uncasted votes have immediate effect on witnesses.

Justification:

  • Such measures would give the whole community plenty of time to come up with a strategy in case of hostile takeover.

Further Thoughts

  • Just reminding whoever comes to read this article that such measure should be implemented alongside others, like the Vote Dilution and Vote Expiration.
    • Vote Dilution I believe is the best suited measure against a single party controlling the whole Security Council
    • Vote Expiration is to prevent dead accounts from influencing the living ones;

IMHO, 2.5 and/or 7 days is just nothing. Wayyyy to short.
All it will do is only have takeover initiator do a more precise planing and
a well time-coordinated actions against majority of steemians.

I stand behind my idea, that someone who has recently acquired HUGE HUGE amounts of steem, should not automatically get major, dominating power and influence in directing the future of the community.
If someone is here multiple years, and been investing heavily multiple years - deserves some priority against the newcomer with only deep pockets and (possibly) violent intentions.

How much Justin got to spend to do what he did?
<1000 BTC ? Less that 1K of Bitcoin? Really?
This is a joke.
Is our steem community, and whole steem space worth only 1000 Bitcoin ???
I bet there are dozens of ppl here on steemit, who's total wealth is above 1000 BTC
