I was doing fine in my little corner... (rant)

...thinking I'll follow my path here with steem which will eventually lead somewhere.

Yesterday sort of shook my resolve in a way.

I like watching @exyle's daily videos, and yesterday he explained the difference between proof-of-work, proof-of-stake and proof-of-brain in his video, and I think anyone can understand that explanation.

Steem blockchain is thought out as a proof-of-brain environment, in which one creates or curates content and gets rewarded based on the appreciation of the other steemians.

I didn't know but learned from the video, that there are people who treat their activity on steemit or other apps they use as proof-of-work, or mining. How do they do that? Create an irrelevant post, then make 10 comments to it and upvote them all at 100%, that's it, they are done for the day!

This is just one way in which the 'proof-of-brain' reward system is abused. I'm not going to list them all here (those which I already know about), but if this grows it will create a toxic environment for legitimate content creators and curators.

Is this where we are going with steem? Is this proof-of-brain? In this case, I want no part of it.

If there are enough people who think proof-of-brain means something else, this should be dealt with, urgently!

Despite having such a small and new account, I will start flagging more! I certainly would prefer to upvote good comments and posts instead of doing sanitation work, but it needs to be done!

Sort Order:

flagging the shit posters and the endless stream of commenters that say
"great post"
"follow me I followed you"
blah blah blah ....

is one way to help. If we as a community flag the consistently bad content creators, their posts and profits will go away! (I hope)

The problem is abusers' accounts seem to do quite well, and since they don't really need to work for their rewards, this is easy money and more will come with the same "philosophy".

go get em upvoted!

Yup, I'm still in the 'ranting mode' Marcus, LOL! But low on VP.
