Duration of DDoS-attacks began to grow

Kaspersky Lab "told about the development trends of DDoS-attacks in the second quarter of this year.
It is reported that in the period from April to June, cybercriminals attacked targets in 70 countries. At the same time 77,4% DDoS-attacks were in China. The second and third places are South Korea and the United States with the index, respectively, 8.0% and 6.7%. Russia in the number of attacks was in the sixth position with a result of 0.6%.

"Kaspersky Lab" notes that the duration of DDoS-attacks began to rise. So, in the second quarter of 2016 the share of short-term attack, the duration of which is not more than 4 hours, decreased from 68% to 60%, while the percentage of attacks lasting from 20 to 49 hours has increased more than 2 times, and the share of attacks duration from 50 to 99 hours increased 4 times. And if the most prolonged attack of the first quarter lasted 8 days, the peak of the second quarter amounted to 12 days (291 hours).
In the second quarter of 2016, 70.2% of all detected attacks carried out with the Linux-botnet - almost twice the rate of the previous quarter. The list of countries in which there were command and control servers botnets, performing DDoS-attacks, the leader of South Korea with the index 70%. The result of Russia - 4.5%, which corresponds to the fourth place.

In the second quarter of 2016 attackers have paid close attention to financial institutions whose business is related to cryptocurrency. High competition in this area leads to the use of unfair methods of struggle, one of which is the use of DDoS-attacks.
