Welcome to this weeks update on IBT Survival Island.
Another super quick update this week, work continues and we spent time on the front menu system
Using a Matinee approach we can dynamically change the background and it allows us to be able to display an actual ingame background rather than a movie in UE4.
By doing this you can add random events unlike a movie that is already fixed. The title screen we are currently working on uses matinee instead of a fixed image or movie. Another benefit is its great as a screen saver if you have to walk away from your pc for a long period of time. This would stop what they call a "burn in" on the pixels on your monitor. Matinee can also be used to make real-time in game movies and events but soon will no longer be available due to some changes that will be happening to UE4. The good news is any matinee movies/events that are already made can be converted to the new system.
The above is what the editor looks like while making the title screen.
And that's it for this week - Cheers and Steemon!
It looks good. And I have always liked dynamic stuff happening in the background. There's one in Kingdom Come: Deliverance that I didn't realise until I watched it one day. Basically, it's a first person view from your character, Henry, looking at a house. The image is sort of fixed so that you just see the side of the house and so you can read the options screen.
What I saw was just a female NPC walk down the porch of the house sweeping the floor with a broom. I was stunned when I saw it because I thought it was a fixed image. It might be set on a loop as it's the same location each time and the same time of day.
I think games like Red Dead Redemption 2 do this during their cutscenes too, so that what you're wearing for most of the game doesn't clash with the cutscene. What you're wearing is what you see.

Yeah I agree - Nice to just sit and watch a game for a few moments at load up before hitting the play button, just enjoy the graphics and get in the mood.
Cheers
