IBT Survival Island Game - Progress Report Twenty Four

in steem •  5 years ago

Welcome to this weeks update on IBT Survival Island.

It's time for the Steem and CK token giveaway for the "The lost Casterway!" Last weeks update was more of a competition then an update, with promise to take the best idea by a steemian and have it featured in the game.

You can see the competition responses here:

It was tough to decide which response was best, as some really fun and thought provoking ideas came forth. I'm pleased to announce we have judged the idea by @chireerocks as the winning idea for this months competition.

The thought process spawned the idea of a legendary Aussie Bunyip making an appearance in the game and so a note will be found in the skeletons hand warning people of this brutal way to die.

Thanks to everyone who put forth an idea, but in the end we had to pick a single idea. Well done @chireerocks your CK tokens and liquid Steem prize will be arriving shortly - please share with your friends what we are trying to build here and come back next month for a chance at more awesome prizes :)

On with this weeks update.

Wow! it's crazy hard building a game.

Take something you once did that took a month full time, multiply that by 12 and your getting close to the blood and tears needed to make a fun game without the bugs.

We are happy to have nearly all major coding hurdles jumped, we spent a fair amount of time looking at bugs, books and items.

The above image is a low res pic taken from the actual game in construction - IBT Survival island.

Work continues on the IBT book test.

This test has been going all week and is currently using generic test files to make sure it is working correctly before adding the actual information.  The generic test files show that the pages are actually loading. Many bugs have been found and are almost ironed out.  (We think!) Anyhow, here is how it goes. First a book is found or located. You then select it and read it in your "carrying inventory".  Once the "book cover" is "READ" and identified, you will be able to access and read the whole book in your crafting inventory.

Once the book is open there will be recipes of things to craft. Each recipe will have  a READ button on the bottom of the page. Once the READ button is clicked a recipe should unlock and allow you to create something new. (As long as you have the right ingredients.) On the right is a group of buttons that lets you navigate your way around. You must select each page and click the READ button before unlocking any recipies. Basically you have to see quickly what each item is before it is unlocked. When you pick up a book on a certain topic you dont just read the front cover and thats it. With a book you at least have to see whats inside before knowing about it!

Anyways getting books read and learned has been a challenge for awhile now and I'm pleased to say we nearly have this licked as you can see in the images in this post. It just goes to show, if you don't give up and believe in yourself....stuff actually happens!!! lol! Well kind of...haha.. that is it for this weeks update - take care out there and Steemon!

You still need to beat my 15 years and counting on the same project young whippersnapper 😜

How many play testers do you have?

Game looks like it’s really powering along 😄

You sure are old..hehe...err i mean hope your project gets there soon :)

No testers at the moment - the number of bugs was so excessive and some of the story elements need working, basically we decided not to go with a limited playable demo. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.

When it nears completion we will bring in the testers for final tweaks and fixes - Cheers for the interest and following along :)

Yes yes I am 🤣

Yeh testers for when you’ve got it playable. Then they’ll break a whole pile more things as they do stuff you didn’t think about 🤣

So make sure they’re part of development 😜

Wise words.. we will, but we need to make sure the fundamentals and foundation is solid - will engage testers as soon as I reach a level of comfort :)

Too many immature projects, with promises not kept.

Totally understandable. It’s been 15 years and I haven’t done beta readers because I keep tweaking something 🤣 (it’s usually pretty minor dialogue cleanup now but sometimes the dialogue changes completely)
