Learn More To Earn More: Thought For The Day #51πŸ’βœ

Decrease your television time

People who have more information have a tremendous advantage over people who don't. And though you may think it takes years to acquire the knowledge you would need to become successful, the truth is that simple behaviors such as reading for an hour a day, turning television time into learning time, and attending classes make it surprisingly easy to increase your knowledge - and substantially increase your level of success.

Here's a powerful facts about watching TV

Do you think that you could eliminate watching 1 hour of TV a day? Not watching just 1 hour of television a day could create an extra 365 hours per year to accomplish whatever is most important to you. That's over nine additional 40 hour workweeks. 2 months of additional time! This realisation was huge for me!

'It is better to be prepared for an opportunity and not have one than to have an opportunity and not be prepared' (Whitney M. Young Jr.)

Commit to lifelong learning

Realise that the amount of knowledge and information available in the world is growing at a mind-numbing pace. In fact, it has been said that all human knowledge has doubled in the last 10 years. Don't expect this trend to slow down.

More alarming, the information that allows you to be successful - to be on the cutting edge of your career and profession - is evolving at the same pace. That's why you must commit to lifelong self-improvement and learning - improving your mind, increasing your skills, and boosting your ability to assimilate and apply what you learn.

Television Programming is called programming for a reason. Studies done in the 1960's showed that less than a minute of watching Television changed the viewers brain waves from beta waves (emitted when you are in a normal conscious state or involved in cognitive tasks) to alpha waves (emitted from your brain when your brain is in a resting or meditative state). and when the viewer stops watching TV, their brainwaves go back up to beta waves.

I have seen statistics showing the average American still watches TV 4 hours all they way up to 7 hours 50 minutes per day. That is an insane waste of time. Your point is valid about how much you can convert even 1 of these hours into productive time, let alone 4 or almost 8 hours.

I love that commitment to life long learning. So true!

Β  Β· Β 6 years agoΒ

That is true, the word 'programming' is very potent there. Yes, I recognise that when I have to much screen time I feel overloaded and even stressed, when I have just been on Steemit or watching Podcasts! I am still doing productive and positive actions but the screen time makes it almost stressful and tiring! Something to work on! That's a crazy amount of time!

One of the main negative aspects of watching television is that by doing so, we reduce coexistence and dialogue with the people around us and isolate us, even if watching television is an activity that is usually carried out "as a family". Reading, although it is an individual activity, helps you improve your personal relationships. How? When you read books like novels or biographies, you have access to different perspectives of life and help us to improve as a person.

Yes that is true, when watching TV we see human interaction on the TV without having them in person, because 1 it is isolating and 2 it almost artificially fills the need for conversations because we have seen them on the TV.

@luppers, Knowledge is eye opening and unblocking aspect and it will going to make us more Solution Oriented if we pursue knowledge more and more. Knowledge is everywhere but many fail to pursue because many limit their learning ways means, if we observe then many still consider the age aspect when they want to gain knowledge or pursue knowledge, but knowledge is never ending process for sure. Keep up and stay blessed.

Yes. We are taught about what learning is in a very limited way. Once many of us leave school and education learning goes out of the window. Older people have a lot of wisdom to share as they have experienced life for many years and they share that in books that they write, that is the key! And something I am talking about in my next podcast!

I really agreed with the point "education learning goes out of the window". Waiting for the next Podcast. Have a joyful time ahead.

Yes. During school we are not taught to teach ourselves because unfortunately most the time we do not enjoy the things that we are taught!

That's true. Currently in many cases Education = Burden but it should be Education = Exploration Of Life. Keep sharing your pieces of experience and knowledge. Have a enjoyable time ahead.

Depends on what you're watching on TV.

The majority of TV is not healthy for us and is 'programming' us in an unhealthy way!

A strong desire to learn something is already 50% of success. And if a person really wants it, he will give up everything that may prevent him from receiving knowledge. In this case, the TV :)

That's great, I hope that the posts that I make can add toward that goal for you, learning more information!

Welcome

Good post and thought.
If you let me: you have forgotten that, while watching TV, the activity level of our brain decreases (so, we become a bit more... I don't know if the appropriate word is 'stupids' or which word is better).
Besides, we have the sensation of being doing something but watching TV it's mainly a passive activity.
Greetings from Spain.

Β  Β· Β 6 years agoΒ

That's an interesting thought, you think that when we watch TV there is less stimulation of the brain so as a result we become more numb and 'stupid'?

Thanks for your offering! About the TV, it's not what I believe but what scientific studies concluded years ago (it's also true that I have no more data). Have a good Sunday!

I think one has to balance the equation because you can't read books from morning till night. You can watch TV at your leisure time after reading books. It's all about disciplining yourself. Structure your time in such a way that you only on TV after reading books to your satisfaction and wants to rest.

Β  Β· Β 6 years agoΒ

Of course, balance is key. Yes perhaps reward yourself with the TV after doing something productive, such as reading!

A year ago, I got rid of my TV and bought a book shelf which was almost empty at the time.
Today, is is getting fuller and fuller by the day! Best decision in my life.
