Small introduction:
Don't you hate it when you are trying to look for an opportunity online to make some bucks and you stumble across advertisement that states that they can multiply your money in one day? Yeah it's pretty obvious scam don't you think? well is it?
What is a HYIP program?:
HYIP stands for High Yield Investment Program, a Ponzi-type program which promises an attractive rate of interest for a relatively short time investment. The typical period of a HYIP investment cycle is between 30 days and 60 days.
Analyzing:
Believe it or not people still fall for these kind of programs despite the fact that it's clearly too good to be true, those people fall in three categories:
-Desperate people : These people are have fanatical problems that are rather difficult to solve, debt for example, They see hope in these kind of programs and a chance for them to get out from there debt, there desperation leads them to believe and risk what ever they have.
-Lazy people: This category is not particularity in debt or any money problems, but they are too lazy for work, and these programs provide for there what they are looking for, Big amount of money without having to go to work.
-Testers: This category is not entirely in the dark of what's going on, they are aware of risk but decide to take it anyway giving that the HYIP could be profitable in it's early days , so they go in and out as fast as possible and ensure some kind of profit, some those people get greedy and fall in the trap and some of them don't.
Things to beware of:
These programs are easy to identify, but be careful some of them can really disguise them selves in innocent cheep clothing, They stay up for long time spends and build reputation and once they collect millions, they run away, Do not trust and HYIP program unless you have a strategy to minimize you loses
HachOcean:
One of the big HYIPs of all time, It's been open for about 2 years, built insane reputation...Many people believed that it's the only investment program that will stay and never scam, but they were wrong it indeed turned into a scam ripping off millions of its users.
OK, but you didn't touch the main core of the issue. All investments have risks, usually, bigger yields means bigger risks, BUT. Not all HYIP are Scams, or Ponzies "per se". That is a bit relative.
The main thing to address is, as a business model, this particular investment is sustainable? Regardless of the return yield.
The reason i say this is because, compared to traditional investment products, Cryptocurrencies seem to have a very high Yield, therefore, they can be considered HYIPs, but not necessarily SCAMs or PONZI schemes.
A really educational thing would be to help diferenciate Scams from legit investments (regardless of risk).

HashOcean is a Great example of Ponzi scheme, However, if a higher price of Bitcoin, Hashnest could give you ROI in about 1000 days , last time i checked (provided BTC price stays high) which in tradicional investments standards is a VERY high Yield!
