I been voting on every damn thing like gangbusters...

I just found out you shouldn't do that... I'm still pretty new to steeming, and I been upvoting like it was going out of style! Apparently that's now the best way to earn curation rewards. Which is a shame, cause I was having a blast. I felt like Oprah. "You get an upvote! You get an upvote!Copy of Oprah-You-Get-A.jpg

There is a great post here that explains what's up, if you're a noob like me, it's pretty informative.

Read that post here:

And while you're at it follow @dantheman

And make sure your vote matters, but most importantly, get out there and steem!

i still like to go upvote crazy lol

nice

You can repair some of the damage done by going through your comment history and unliking comments you've left that haven't received additional upvotes.

You also shouldn't upvote most of your own things (even blog posts). On occasion is alright, but not often.

Thanks! I'm going to have to keep digging into it because I feel like my grasp of the concept is loose at best, but I didn't even think about how upvoting my own stuff dillutes my vote... So thanks for the heads up.

No problem at all!

I made those same mistakes. But I've been here for just a week and a half, and I'm pretty damn happy with my growth so far.

Feel free to come hit me up if you have any questions. I'm not an expert, but I have learned a lot since joining.

I disagree

You've also been here substantially longer than the whales I've learned that from.

Ultimately, it's one of those things you have to read up on and decide for yourself. I personally believe it based on what I've observed and the quality of other information from those users.

whales have their own reasons for saying what they do.
and I've only been here since August.

That's a lot longer than a large chunk of the active community.

of course...

notice how many new people we gained...YESTERDAY.

hate to bust your bubble.
but look at the dates.
that's OLD news.
the rules have changed since HardFork 18.
and besides...if you're plankton or a minnow...
it doesn't much matter anyway.
so don't hold back...go ahead and vote
(it'll come back to HELP you down the line)

Thanks for setting me straight! I've clearly got more reading to do. Wheat from chaff and all that.

but WAIT..there's more.
HardFork 19 is imminent.
Your voting power will then be INCREASED by a factor of ten.

I don't even know what hard forks ARE! Ah jeez, I'm getting anxiety now. Lol. But seriously, now I gotta go read about hard forks.

I don't even care if that reduces my voting power, that gets an upvote. Thanks though, I just read up a little on hf19, and it seems much more equitable. I didn't know anything about slide voting either, so that's collateral damage to my ignorance I guess.

WHEN you get a slide then you should worry about vote power, and not before..you'll know it when you see it.

until then...don't worry...just vote.
