Steem Entrepreneurs Listen Up! - We need a Filehosting Service!

in steem •  8 years ago

@pollux.one gave me an idea, so anyone entrepreneurial with webhosting skills could do this. Steemit urgently needs a filehosting service where you can sell books, music, videos and other for STEEM or SBD.

It could be like: http://satoshibox.com

But based on STEEM, a clean simple website where you can just upload stuff and sell if for STEEM or SBD. So if anyone who has webhosting/programming skills, please do it. I just gave you a good business tip, there would be demand for such thing, a lot of people would use it:

  • Photographers from #photography
  • Other visual artists from #art
  • Music creators
  • Other salesman

It is worth a try, in my opinion, and it would enrich STEEM commerce by a lot! People could trade files in STEEM, that would be awesome!

After some reflection, I have decided to try this. I think I would accept sbd

Great, make sure you make a big announcement of it, it would be a huge step forward for steem.

Great idea. upvoted and resteemed

I just made SteemImages a image sharing and hosting website for Steemit

It looks like the other steemimg website , or what it was called.

Add your website to steemtools: http://steemtools.com

Thanks again for sharing your blog. Stephen

Yes, that would be cool to have something like Satoshi Box for Steem, and if it could include a button for payment on websites and an affiliate setup like Satoshi Box has, that would be really awesome. :)

Yes but you cant use it here, since that button is javascript based which this site doesnt allow to embed in your posts for security reasons.

So you have to make your own button like I did:

Use http://dabuttonfactory.com to make nice buttons.

What about Storj?
https://storj.io/

Something very simple that people can use on steem. Unless Storj gets somehow integrated into Steemit, i found it difficult to use.

I mean only for trading files, not for long term data storage that storj is for. Only a place to sell music, photos, and such like satoshibox.

Ah, gotcha..good point. It'd be great to get those guys involved, maybe use their service as the back engine with a simple GUI for what we need.

Well it would be interesting if they could store the Steem blockchain, and integrate the blockchain part into there. That could lesser the burden on Steem witnesses and nodes.

But for this particular task, I dont think its efficient.

Does it make sense to provide a service like satoshibox for those(everyone) who have been used to downloading everything for free? Is Satoshibox profitable? These are my concerns.

I see many people selling e-books there. There are also adult photos there from https://www.reddit.com/r/GirlsGoneBitcoin/

It should be profitable since satoshibox is online for more than 2 years now I think. A lot of people are using it, and they take a 6% fee from the sell price. I have sold a lot of stuff through them.

Not necessarily enough. People can go years running a site that loses them money for the hope of eventually cashing in. It these days if you want to do anything creative like this you need a VPS. Now with steemd needing at least two gigs of RAM you are looking at a minimal cost of $20 / month. Now, seeing how the Steem ecosystem is tiny, it is unlikely that someone is going to use the service enough to justify the cost.

C'mon, people earn here 500$/post. If the site is designed well, they just need to introduce it here and they will get a ton of upvotes, probably enough to fund it for 1 year, even if they make 0 profit.

They can give regular updates, and they will get upvotes which should fund them until they kickstart.

But I think people will instantly start selling their photos, music, books for Steem. It could be a big business, and a big addition to this economy.
