"Better the Devils you know, than the Devil you don't" ... Migrating to a new blockchain

@ats-david,

You won’t find many investors around here that want a Voice-like platform.

In case you haven't noticed, mate, there don't seem to be many investors that want a STEEM-like platform ... as evidenced by STEEM's price and market cap, to say nothing of its now greatly diminished user base. By those metrics, it would seem that crypto investors agree with my assessments, not yours.

And, in case you'd forgotten, Block.One raised more than USD $4 billion in its ICO. Guess where that money came from. Investors.

I’m not even sure how you can have or want a platform like Voice and also champion things like decentralization, free-speech, and free association ...

As a practical fellow, I understand that the world is full of compromises. For example, I understand that the dream of creating a 'Jurisdictionless No Man's Land in Cyberspace' is patently unrealistic. Real world governments (you know, the ones possessing aircraft carriers), are never going to allow cryptocurrencies to exist that are not KYC and AML compliant. They control the on- and off-ramps to the normal financial system and can "freeze out" any cryptos that don't play ball. Add to that compliance with a ton of other securities regulations. "Anarchism" has never once been implemented in world history and I predict it's in no danger of breaking its perfect losing streak.

With respect to free speech, you may have noticed I have little reluctance in articulating my opinions, this despite having disclosed my name and city of residence in my Steemit Intro Post. Because my words can be attached to my real world identity, however, I choose them carefully so as to preserve my reputation.

Perhaps that's not such a bad idea because, as I wrote in my Voice Intro Post (respecting Voice's Real World ID disclosure): "It is also likely to increase the civility of discourse ... as the courage of a cockroach is dependent upon the depth of the darkness in which it may hide.

If everyone were similarly concerned about protecting their real world reputations, perhaps we'd have fewer folks comporting themselves in the manner of barnyard animals. And for those concerned about the negative repercussions of expressing "legitimate but unpopular views," I would counsel the growing of a pair of balls. Cowardice ought not be treated as if it were courage and lambs ought not be mistaken for lions. If you do not possess the courage of your convictions, then you ought not be treated as if you did.

FYI: There are a ton of Steemians participating in Voice Beta. None of them seem to share your concerns.

But there’s a difference between informed opinions based on the comprehension of blockchain protocols and their intent ...

Really? And who decides what is an "informed opinion" and what's not? Same query respecting "appropriateness of blockchain protocols" and the "propriety of their intent?"

As you may have noticed, there's scarcely a single thing regarding cryptocurrencies and blockchains that is universally accepted. Everybody thinks they have the best model. 'Proof of work' or 'proof of stake?' 'A store of value' or 'a unit of exchange?'

But you know ... because you say so.

Which segues rather nicely into your last quote:

Ignorance can be easily forgiven. Arrogance...not so much.

I would advise you to Google a psychological phenomenon called, "Projection."

“What you want this blockchain to be and what it is are completely different. You won’t find many investors around here that want a Voice-like platform.”

You failed to comprehend this point.

I get it. You’re not a fan of Steem. You prefer Voice. The great thing about all of this is - you’re free to not use this platform and to use Voice instead.

I’m not sure what else to tell you. This blockchain is not Voice. The investors here don’t want it to be Voice. Others would rather enjoy a place like Facebook. You have those options. Exercise them.

The rest of us who would rather stay here and use and develop this blockchain really don’t care what other people decide to do on other platforms. We want to be here. Sometimes it’s not only about the rewards or the money. Believe it or not, many users, investors, and developers just want the freedom to create and support whatever they want without worrying about bans and deletion of their work.

So if your goal is to simply say, “I told you so,” then I’m afraid nobody cares...just as nobody on this platform cared to adopt your absurd ideas when you proposed them in 2018.

Just as you did in 2018, you’re severely overestimating your influence, I’m afraid. That seems to be a common mistake for the arrogant and I’m sorry that you misidentified the source of the projection.

Your words now make you appear desperate to be “right,” but the truth is that your arguments are wholly undermined by the utter insignificance of your rather ill-informed opinions.

In other words...

Cool story, bro.

@ats-david.

I get it.

Actually, I doubt that you do.

In any event, you've said your piece and I've said mine. It's unlikely that beating a dead horse is going to change either of our minds. So let's just call it a draw and let people come to their conclusions.
