How Glow In The Dark Trees Will Soon Replace City Lights

Most of us have had moments where we enjoy walking down certain pathways lit by lights, jerking our imagination to a far off fantasy land. But this may get even better as science is currently busy with research that may result in our pathways being illuminated by genetically modified bioluminescent plants.

Dutch designer, Daan Roosegaarde’s team, who have abstracted clever, interactive highways and parks that eradicate smog particles, are now turning their attention to bioluminescent jellies and bacteria. By assimilating their light generating compound with plants, the group envisages illuminating city paths with trees that glimmer and glow at night.

In 2007, Edward A Quinto of the International Society for Bioluminescence and Chemiluminescence produced a glowing Christmas tree. One by one, inventions using this idea are evolving.

The mechanism regarding bioluminescence is to reproduce procedures for producing light originating in chemical reactions naturally E.g certain jellyfish or bacteria–for human purposes. Chemiluminescence refers to the giving off of light with inadequate emission of heat as an outcome of a chemical reaction. Several researchers feel that equally, these processes have the prospective to produce ecological, non-petroleum-based light sources.
