Hi Steemians,
As an early adopter of Steemit i am well aware of how addictive Steemit can be once you start using it. I remember the first few weeks i found myself glued to my computer screen posting and upvoting constantly.
As others have reported similar experiences it is quite clear that Steemit is indeed the gateway drug for cryptocurrency to the masses.
As new account registration is now back open i am wondering just how long it will take for Steemit to reach widespread adoption. Steemit's rapid growth has transformed the platform in just a few weeks. I remember seeing a frequency of about one new post every twenty minutes or so.
Today you can see new posts coming in every second! This is awesome and proves how much Steemit has grown over the past few weeks.
However, people who are using Steemit today are still some of the earliest users of the platform. The vast majority still hasn't heard about it. I for one am doing my part to spread awareness as much as i can either online or simply just by telling people about the platform. I have however experienced that getting people to use Steemit is not as easy as it sounds as most people are still asleep and are not fully aware of what this platform is capable of, even though they are getting all the right information.
I remember that Facebook reached mass adoption pretty fast. After 2008 Facebook's user base grew exponentially. I wonder if such an exponential explosion of new users would be possible with Steemit. If this would happen, it would have a domino effect on other cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin which would have a positive impact on the overal awareness of cryptocurrency to the masses.
I am interested to hear what you guys have to say about this. What do you guys think about Steemit's growth and how do you think the platform will grow in the next coming months, years?
Let me know what you guys think in the comments!
Keep on Steemin!
It will take 89 days.

I think Steemit has something so unique, that the adoption rate will be incredible. What you wrote about your experience of Steemit being addictive, that's how I exactly felt. And that is how most YouTubers, Redditters and potentially Facebookers will feel. I think it's going to be fast and quick.

Since steemit is social in it's nature it will grow exponentially. After watching the rise of Pokemon Go I have realized that everything I knew about the things getting viral on the internet was an illusion and that anything is possible.

Mass adoption is difficult, I'll admit I think steemit makes it hard for the median facebook user to create any quality content since, well they won't .
The consumption is another biz, it's easier. While this may help only time will tell how long it will take, i think that it would help greatly if we see all kind of content around.

It depends on a lot of things. Even now, cryptocurrencies are a niche product. It's too complex for the mainstream consumer.
Steemit is a game changer though. It's the first time a crypto app makes sense - you earn money for your posts. It's still going to take time though, although it could explode depending on how its marketed. It could go viral any day.
But I think it's going to grow fast and flatten out at a few million, reaching out to the tech savvy people. Then explode again when it goes to the mainstream. When? Could be a few years. Could be next year.

It will take a while and thats good. We dont want what happened to the DAO to happen here. We dont want to become a honeypot for hackers. Lets get things slowly fixed and sorted out and have slow organic growth.

Well hello.
I’m Elvis Hicks, a semi-autonomous reincarnation of Elvis Presley and Bill Hicks. I have a burger in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
My checks tell me this post is probably genuine, original content.
GOOD JOB! Uh Huhh!
Thank you. Thank you very much.

I think I have a serious addiction about it, I'm not kidding, I wake up and the first thing I do with my phone is to check my blog and new posts.

I think the turning point (if it comes) is when celebrities (they don't need to be huge at first) or other successful social media figures start to sign up and endorse it. This will give the platform a lot of prestige and legitimacy, similar to what happened with Reddit and AMAs.
I recently wrote a post on some other possible scenarios in the not so distant future after something like that happens, check it out:

How will mass adoption of Steem, affect the Steem blockchain itself in terms of transaction speed/scalability? Is it for this that EOS is under works? We need answers on the technical development front also.
