Ready to set sail

Considering all of the 'transparency' of the blockchain, not much is really known is it? No one knows how many users there really are, whose alts are whose and definitely not what is the best course of action. Everyone has an opinion though, even if that opinion is uninformed. Sometimes I wonder if business people ran Steem instead of tech people, would it be better, or worse? I am pretty sure that decisions to act would move a lot faster, which I find ironic considering the tech startup world is meant to outpace the traditional easily.

Sometimes I think that it is because there are too many cooks in the kitchen, too many ducks to get in a row and, way too many egos who demand to be heard. Perhaps it isn't business people this place needs, maybe it is a headmistress considering how childish some of the nonsense that goes on here is. There definitely is a lot of public tantrums, toddlers throwing up their arms demanding their candy returned.

I am always curious as to what kinds of lives people live in the real world, what were they doing 5 years ago, 10? I wonder about those who made their fame and fortune on Steem because they happened to get in at the right time and get noticed by the right people. I wonder what they would be doing if Steem never existed? What would these people who live off Steem be doing. Most would have to get a job right? What kinds of jobs? Would the writers be able to write, the STEM posters working in a lab, the coders?

I always find it incredible that there is so much opportunity here but what slows us down, what holds us back is, Us. We are our own worse enemy. Steem has had essentially no competition for 2 years but instead of experimenting and failing fast, nothing really moves at all. Yes, SMTs are coming and Oracles too and hopefully they will bring some options and balance but, it takes people a long time to make any significant decisions here. In the real world, that would be unacceptable, the business model wouldn't survive.

In business, the best time to make changes and prepare for the future is when times are slow and, ties are tough. Slow times means there is additional resources, tough times means there is a willingness to pull together to get the job done. But, that is in a centralized system where people's livelihoods rely on survival. Most on the platform here treat it more like a take it or leave it investment. Many are always one foot out the door, always monitoring the winds and ready to set sail for more prosperous waters.

It is okay to be that way but do the platform a favor, raise the main sail and move out. Perhaps then the invested people can get to making the changes necessary to survive and thrive in the future. Just some thoughts before the headache from my treatment today really sets in for the week.

I understand your message completely. Too many people here are not here for the Long Haul. They're not looking for the future of steemit. They're simply looking for the fast buck. Once things dip, they're gone. We need people who invest time. Not just money. The people who invest only money are able to just take their money and run. They have no emotional investment. We need emotional investment

To get emotional investment requires human heart and soul which many are unwilling to give.

Yeah. That's exactly right.

Maybe my humble opinion is very simple, ten years ago I wrote in my personal blog about education, where sometimes someone commented. Today I write here and I have some regular readers as well as I read them.

The change has been good for me. Although I have received few benefits, I have been able to learn and have helped me grow as a person in a situation that is extremely difficult here, at least I can spend hours reading and commenting and I forget the crisis that my country is experiencing.

Greetings, it does not hurt your head.

I have been able to learn and have helped me grow as a person in a situation that is extremely difficult here

This is a major benefit and perhaps one day, it will help you in other ways too.

Yes, I'm sure of that, everything has its due time. Thank you

I am a newbie to Steemit, but I completely agree with your post. It can be enticing to take the "easy way" and use automated services to build the artificial connection. I have yet to post any content, but will be uploading some videos to dtube and posting some of my writing very soon.

I look forward to seeing the transition of my account go from the current 10 fake user followers to actually building an authentic following!

Thanks for the sharing the post.

Welcome and good luck :)

From what I understand, steemit has become a local competition to see who manages to earn more, instead of promoting ideas that improve the community and thus be more profitable for those who work more dedicated to this platform ... Please correct me if I did not understand your message

whenever earning is involved there is going to be competition, people just can't help it. There is healthy competition and destructive competition though. This post however is more about the people who aren't really willing commit to anything.

For my steemit it is a blessing, it has come at the best moment in our lives, taking into account that in my country Venezuela, the issue of cryptocurrencies was not handled in previous years, but until now due to the economic situation of the country, this issue has Highly highlighted because it has been the departure for many who earn us a minimum wage that does not even buy a kilo of cheese. The important and outstanding thing is that we take care of the platform and help by providing good content for the platform to maintain or grow. If we depend on it then we must take care of it.

I am hoping that you are able to get a little support for your life through steemit and things will improve in Venezuala

Amen, Thank you. I have every hope that it will be like this. :)

We are a new bunch. People in this space I mean - the cryptosphere. I too sometimes get this feeling that this is all a big experiment. Which truthfully it is. Boundaries are bound to get tested, egos will clash, devs will have to act business leaders ........

In the end it comes down to the fact that whether people are willing to take the risk of get aboard this ship, which by very definition is in beta. I think once the mind is made up the experiment becomes an adventure and even the tantrums sometimes become entertaining :-)

the tantrums can be entertaining but I wish there was a little more less entertainment and a little more creating taking place. Everyone wants to sit back and eat popcorn and watch drama. Societal illness.

That's certainly true............. they are enjoyable once in a while. Too many of them is just a sign of work not getting done

I agree that some of the decisions made in the past were most likely not made in the best interests of Steemit, but for certain individuals. It is time to aggressively sort this place out and move out of Beta eventually. You can't spend years fiddling around going nowhere as something will happen elsewhere and people will move on. Hope headache isn't too bad after treatment.

Many were bad, some were good. The problem is the length of time to learn and adjust, it is mammoth here.

The headache will get progressively worse for a couple days and then subside.

Very interesting questions because Steemit has change the live of many people. I would have liked to be here from the beginning, at the right time hahaha, my life would be very different I guess. And yes, some of those changes and decisions from the development team are taking so much time. I think they are focus on the SMT launch right now

The easy ride mentality that it should just come to me has turned many things into a giant mess hasn't it. What's happening mate, you okay?
