places not known for steem blockchain, maybe we should still have integration and coverage.

i did a video about taskopus the other day and how it would be great if it had support for steem in there - unfortunately that’s not going to happen in the short term because of a number of factors, mainly dev team size and supporting more than one currency, opening up the flood gates and well just general belief that it might be hard to integrate.

I realise those who code on the steem blockchain may react to that in some kind of way and that’s fine we all get precious about something but hear me out as these areas that were mentioned are great clues to where we can be better in communicating the chain.

I had mentioned to simon about steem keychain, I threw out a question about their current app, electron and if things would be easy to integrate obviously not knowing how these systems/frameworks work leaves me at a disadvantage to help communicate what we DO have.

But he did come up with some very clear pointers that had me nodding in agreement with, I’ve listed them below and some rational behind them.

Exodus Eden wallet

I didn’t know that it was written in javascript and runs via electron, they have like 100 cryptos supported (mostly erc-20 tokens I believe) like a run off of experimental providing in the second app so not to confuse the main electron wallet but to support what’s out there — most of them I guess are easier to integrate because they are eth based, I’m guessing that’s why they have so many supported — simon fed back with a very clear indicator to me.

Which makes me wonder why. I mean they have implemented hundreds of cryptos and tokens and steem is not one of them? I’m thinking that maybe the mechanics of steem might be really hard to implement..

personally I think it’s probably because of the erc-20 majority of tokens, it just looks good if your second product to have widespread coverage has a bunch of tokens that are out there listed, but how hard would it be for exodus to get steem working in their app? Have we done outreach to them, do we have clear documentation that not just one provider can use to build in support for steem, is it even possible to have a steem wallet inside of something like exodus, knowing that it’s in javascript? -- is it something that needs to be developed?

another problem is exchanges

Steem is not on changelly.com (avoid it, but even if it’s a scammy exchange, but still works for small transactions), not on fixedfloat.com , not on changenow.com … it’s quite hard to convert Bitcoin or BCH to steem. You need to go through Binance or Poloniex or whatever to do that

I found this the most interesting in the responses because while it’s right and it’s probably why we have not gone down that route because it’s seen as scummy, a first point of call for someone who uses other cryptos is to check certain websites — I’d never heard of fixedfloat or changenow if I’m honest but if people are using them, we should be there, be where the eyeballs are right? — it can be the difference between it being supported or not, it’s clear to me we need to be where people/devs are looking for them to support the crypto in their applications and services.

hope this helps direct some targeting outreach, if you have a ready to go ‘developer’ pack of information please feel free to drop it in the comments, I’m happy to do the outreach and take questions and answers back and forth if it moves this big steem gravy boat forward! :)
