Could Steemit be the next Facebook?

in steem •  9 years ago

Facebook has profiles, Steemit could have profiles.
Facebook has a mobile app, Steemit will most likely have a mobile app.
Facebook shows advertising, Steemit could show advertising.
Facebook has 1 billion users, Steemit could have 2 billion users.
Mark Zuckerberg is a cheat, Dan Larimer and Ned Scott are gods.

The list goes on and on

Even if Steemit does not position itself as a social network like Facebook, being Reddit 2.0 is definitely something to aspire to be.

  • Subreddits (pages or grouos)
  • Voting (we already have that, ah ha Reddit we have you now)
  • Reddit sucks and does not have much else
  • 3 blockchain based digital currencies with their own attributes, ah ha Reddit you suck

I think part of Facebook's genius was getting users to invite everyone, even grandma, to use it with them. It's easy enough for grandma to use and understand. The problem I see, is if we invite grandma to use Steemit, it'll just confuse her. Blockchain is such a new technology it hasn't been assimilated into our society yet.

I think it will exist alongside Facebook and Twitter and basically kill all the other blogging and thread based networks. On this subject, I just made a parody video of a man comparing Steemit to Facebook and Twitter (Risitas, if you know the hilarious video). Let me know what you think: https://steemit.com/funny/@oliverb/funny-man-compares-steemit-com-to-facebook-and-twitter-risitas-parody

Steem is the lovechild of Facebook/Reddit/Bitcoin threesome.
