Why Steemit sucks, and how it will die. Unless...

in steem •  7 years ago

If you started your adventure with Steemit recently, it was certainly because you thought you'd make a quick buck by posting articles. However, you're part of the 99,5% of users who will make nothing. Why? Because you don't understand how this platform works, just as most people.

The problem with Steemit is simple : it's overly complicated. When a new user discovers Steem, SBD and SteemPower he doesn't understand a thing. Why would I have so many different currencies/items? Why can some people upvote posts with an arbitrary amount of money while I can't even though my balance says I should be able to?

So many questions, and next to no answers ( unless you start watching videos explaining how Steemit works for hours and read all the documentation - which doesn't explain things too well to be honest ).

Before you call me an idiot for no understanding Steemit, let me tell you this : I understand it quite well and I talk about the experience of a new user. The idiots are those who expect everyone to understand this website. It is supposed to appeal to the masses, however its steep learning curve deters many potential users. I'm pretty sure the admins have the numbers on Steemit and I'm certain they aren't pretty.

Potential Fix

Simplify the process of earning Steem by removing the notions of Steem Power and SBD. You can do all of this with Steem alone. If something is not straight-forward, explain it clearly with clean documentation and short video tutorials.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

There is indeed no need for SBD, if you can't peg its value to $1.00 USD. And you can't, unless you hold a pile of cash in USD that corresponds to the issued amount of SBD and there is an exchange where you can trade these, both of which are highly impractical.

I agree that the UX can be more simpler for the average user.

I stopped reading at this point. I didn't join to make a quick buck.

He is funny like some, they think we are here only for money, i like to make money here true, but i like reading a lot without expecting anything...

Most people come here for the money bait, don't lie to yourself

I'm sure a good percentage do. But it's not everyone like you claimed.

Perhaps you should consider that the potential for Steemit is not to earn income but to compete with other social media giants.

The potential is there but people don't quit facebook or twitter for Steemit due to its limitations and their habits, rendering your point invalid

I agree with the post. Steemit has a long way to go. The learning curve regarding the Steem Power, etc, is intimidating and the interface and UX needs work. It also needs more of a "fun factor" if it's going to attract the masses.

was thinking the same. if we put aside the Beta version platform ,
there are a few unnecessary complications e.g. with payments, with realising what value SP holds, or the difference between STEEM and ST PWR.
and for those who are not here to make money, well.. you feel free to donate your steem savings to me, not a problem.
ffs, the post was about steemit platform, not about you, your reasons or your feelings

STEEMIT = DARK MIRROR ?
STEEMIT = PONZI SCHEME ?
