I walked by the old movie theatre today, on my way home from work. The last few days, they e had it sectioned off. I was hoping that they were doing renovations on the building.
It's one of those ancient looking, movie theatres. The type we used to stand in line waiting to see a show at. Sometimes, the lineup woukd go right around the block. Depending on what was showing. And even then, if we weren't able to get in for the show.
Sometimes we would just stand there waiting for the next screening. The big movies were all the rave. Kind of makes me wonder what's happened to the movie scene nowadays. You don't see that kind of hype anymore.
So, I took some photos. But again, my phone doesn't allow me to upload it. As usual.
Seen that too. Should have snapped pics.
Also the reason movies have no hype is because it's all remakes.. I've not seen an original idea come out of hollywood in a decade..

Your so right about the lack of originality. They say everything's been done. But, that's just a line. All the creativity is in microbudget films these days, while the big budgets go to cg. Such shenanigans

There's a lot of complicating factors to why there isn't much hype to movies anymore.
First would be money. My roommate and I would love to go see more stuff in the theaters but it's easily $10 or more a ticket for regular seats, more if you want to see 3D or IMAX. Factor in the cost of gas to get where we're going, plus snacks and such or more if you want their overpriced popcorn.
Second would be time. Sure, I could spend upwards of 2-3 hours to drive to the place and see the movie and maybe do whatever else while doing that and that alone. Or I could wait for the movie to come out, borrow a copy or find one online, and watch it while I'm doing something else. Also means I could watch it time and again without having to pay every time.
Third would be the whole in public vs at home thing. Sure, I could sit in a PG-13 movie that some idiot brought their 8 year old to and listen to them scream and cry every time there is an explosion and loud noise, or listen to the idiot teens behind me chatter through the whole movie or whatever else. Or I could watch the movie from the comfort of my own home without all that going on.
Theaters overall are a dying business. They're charging too much and barely staying afloat in most cases. It's the sad but true reality of the age where things are quickly available online, the poor are poorer than ever and those with money work nearly 24/7 to stay that way and have no time for fun stuff if it doesn't intersect with work.
