Maybe something to consider if and you do have savings. It's normally recommended to have a balenced portolio e.g. Property, stocks, bonds ... but along with that a small amount crypto could (or equally it might not) provide some return on your investment.

Hehe... I'm just a trader who was lucky to make a good return on the recent bubble in crypto! There are way richer people on steemit than me (and most of these didn't even have to buy their steem 'cause they mined it during the semi-secret launch, which was nice for them of course :) ). My current steem power is now pretty depletely so I think im going have to completely rein back upvoting replies after today (so pretty much on no more comments for a while). But since that was such a nice post I can give you one extra upvote for your last comment too :)

Great analysis, xaero! I also see this community as a fascinating "work in progress" . We do not know yet where this will end. A year ago I was not even aware of how this could work and today I see brilliant posts and things happening in real life. We are talking about people, about conferences/steemfests, even buying islands together. WOW.

That is the reason that i wanted to give some trust to steemit. I also powered up by exchanging my bitcoin to steeem. I hope itwill work out.

I've only been on steem a few days,I didn't really now what to think of it,so I started off with just buying £25 worth of steem and I don't regret it. Definetly buying more next time,I know it's hardly anything,but I'm sure if everyone purchased just a little amount,even that would make a difference.

Hopefully it will be a win-win situation - more people start investing and holding steem, ideally it starts getting used more and more as a currency (so people don't have to cash out) and moreover it's possible it provides a great return on investment through the rewards. Anyway, that is my hope and reason for investing but only time if this (radically new) economic model will work out!

Just to let you know, that there is some limitation int voting power and it needs time to recover. Depending on your vote power up to several days. I guess it would take you about 24 hours to recover to 100%.

Lol nice use of the overly attached girlfriend meme :) I love powering up as much Steem as possible because not only do I believe in it more than any other crypto and love the platform, but it keeps me from losing money trading! I just don't know much about crypto market but most od people told that its time to but steem because in feature steem value will increase. I never hear about steem before untill i join here but now knowing little by little. Although the price of steem has been falling recently, I've still been making a good return in terms of my steem power increasing due to the rewards. So, I think it could be a good long term investment, but only time will tell. Depends if the platform can continue to expand in terms of new users, along with people willing to invest in it (which is required to support the payouts). Of course, I'm hoping so :)

No, I can't say that because that would giving out investment advice! Also you make it sound a bit like a MLM idea, which is not my reason for investing ;)

I bought more because I'm hoping that platform is successful
(and wanted to increase my voting power too ;)). If you look at other social media - if a platform is signing up lots of new users it's good a sign, and one of the most important metrics. What would be the implication of having loads of users? I think that should cause the market cap to go up one way or another as a certain proportion of new users decide to hold onto their steem and buy more in order to increase their influence. If the platform is starting to compete with Facebook etc, and these other social media platforms have much higher market caps, then I'm thinking steem is quite likely to be undervalued right now. But this doesn't mean that the price will go up in the short term. I'm hoping it does in the long term of course, but everyone must make their own investment decisions :)

Yes I agree fully with you regarding the fulling in our steem power
Your Voting power now is 40.56%
If you want to increase it to 100% you have to stop voting around 12-15 hours
You can check your current voting power at Steemd.com/@YOUR-USERNAME.

I think it is great option to buy steem now .. the price is so good

Also, You may have noticed that your pending rewards for many of your posts are falling each day. This might lead you to believe it is a consequence of the recent hard fork change.

There are a couple of reasons behind this one that a major portion of investers decided to cash out at the highest level so they could buy a high volume of bitcoins with steem as the prices recover, I saw an article recently that mentioned that about $13 billion were withdrawn in a week which led to crypto market crash, the reason why prices are hiking again is because of the recent ransomware attack again so the prices will recover plus a lot of newcomers are there in the cryptocurrency industry now, I am a newcomer as well so you can expect the prices to recover after we invest in the market. This is one of the blogs that I have written recently about the crash and the article that I mentioned a link to it is given in it.

As to why your voting value might have fallen can be related to your voting value, I was also concerned about it last week so I did my research and wrote a guide on it for reference.

Haha....funny...more steem power = good! I totally think you made a great call by buying more steem power. It's early days here and it shows you believe in this platform and the whole system. When I first heard about steem, I just wanted to invest in it. Eventually I became interested in the social media side of it too. I think it's a great long term investment even if it has some degree of volatility (as do all other cryptos). I think more and more people will catch on to steem and keep using it regularly. I mean....steemit is like....super addictive...lol.....at least to me anyways....and super fun too, so I think it's a real winner and is just a matter of time before it goes totally mainstream.

Ok, and my secret goal (well, not so secret now ;) ) is to try to get into the top 100 at some point in the future, if I possibly can :)

Anyway, good luck with your own goal of boasting your steem power.

But this time last year I had none, so it took quite a lot of effort to build it up... best time to buy i find is after it has stopped falling and then hasn't gone lower for a long period. Then you just have to make sure you get in before it starts shooting up again. (Hopefully it will shoot up again, at some point, though! ;/ )

And btw, I seem to been getting a pretty good return at the moment from just curation and a few posts (as well as the interest you get with SP I believe). I think I've made something like 1000 SP in just those few weeks! (That's a better yield than Facebook shares for example which currently pay out nothing!)

You do have a lot of SP, the good thing with Steem is, I don't think you will lose because the price I don't believe will go down drastically, and you can at least be making money every time you post.

I think it could go a bit lower in the short term (but that didn't stop me buying some more now anyway!) Hopefully it will starting bouncing back up at some point soon.

One method for trying to minimise risk when investing is so called 'dollar cost averaging', where you just buy the same amount at regular intervals. This way you don't need to try to second guess the market...as you can just ignore whatever the current price is :)

For a second there I read that as how did you get so 'high' lol! (as in i would need to be bit crazy - instead of like spending my money on something more useful and less risky) :D

Anyway: last year I kind of missed out on the initial sky rocketing of the value of STEEM. Well I made a small amount of money but then sold too soon, thinking that was the top. So I bought back in, not a huge amount ... but then saw that lose something like 90% of its value :( :( (there was hyperinflation in steem at the time). But I still thought the platform had great potential, and, after they removed the hyperinflation I was determined to buy a stack of it when thought it reached the bottom and would not go lower. Once a crypto reaches a low and doesn't go lower for a long time, then normally at some point there is only one way it will go - UP! So I bought a stack a few months ago at pretty good value. But it's kind of addictive - once I saw myself getting higher up on rich list I just wanted to get a bit higher ... so I've been buying small amounts more since then. I still want get slightly higher ;) so I plan to buy more as soon as I think/see it's reached another 'bottom' again (which may be quite a bit lower than now, but who knows!) :)

I managed to get maybe half my steem power at a cheaper price than now. But I didn't get in during the ninja-mine period, so had to buy all of it! But I still have some spare BTC/ETH/etc. lying around, so I'm thinking at the moment: do I prefers these, or do I prefer more STEEM! ;)

I have honestly thought about it - upgrading my steempower. I mean, I am new, but my first post did really well. Unfortunately now because of the decline all of my posts are withering away - but thats alright, I really do have faith that the system will turn back around and I can continue to gain more of a following. Yeah, the platform needs enough buyers to support the payouts. I don't think anyone really knows if this completely new model can work out or not (it is pretty crazy, I.e. Creating 'money' out of nowhere!) But there's a chance I think.

Guess what we really need is some Wall Street/ hedge fund types to start investing in it! ;)

I honestly think there are some Pro traders already invested in. JUst an assumption, but with all that´s going on in wall street market (lost momentum) and all the hype there is going on now with cryptos... do the math. Plus, this market is pretty wild at the moment, so very lucrative if you have what it takes.

Yeah it's now a much tougher time to try to make money and even not lose money right now. Two months ago it was still 10x time. This last month, most things have been declining.

Still there do seem to be opportunities right now if you're able to be really dedicated and research all the upcoming news on icos as well as developments for existing coins. EOS turned out to be a great trading opportunity... although personally I was asleep when it spiked really high so wasn't able to capitalise on it as I might have wished!

I bought a bit of Tezos, but not at all convinced in the same way I was with EOS - because I know a lot about the guy behind eos and am certain they will deliver. With tezos I have no idea. Still, recently, for a lot of icos it hasn't mattered at all when they can or even will deliver a product ... the icos have still provided a great return when they've hit the market, regardless! If you don't mind gambling, throwing a small amount of capital at many different Icos has been a good strategy... but no-one can say if this will continue.

Sympathise with the job thing. I only started 2 months ago as a full-time day-trader and quit my previous job but fortunately for me, that was the sweet spot for trading so it tuned out well.

Now, my other/new job seems to be 'curating on steemit'(!) - and actually, I wouldn't be surprised if that turns out to provide a better / more steady income than trading right now ;)

Great for you, it had to be a special moment to quit your previous job and that you could do this. I just started also on steemit to make my family trip to the USA in 2019 ( see blog). I hope with edication I can reach that goal. I don't dream further yet.

Cool, and that's kind of how its supposed to work - some people will want to make money just by posting, but others may want to invest in it because they believe they can make money from it that way. But I believe at least some people in the second category are required to make it work (to support people cashing out)! Bitcoin needs something like $9 million of new money from buyers every day to support the price (because of mining). Steem requires far less, but still something. Unlike bitcoin though, steem power can actually provide a return on money in the way of all the rewards it pays out!

I'd like to, if I can get the time and figure out the details.

I think having a lot of steem power quite likely makes an incredible difference to how successful you can be on this platform. I've been curating and making (only) a few posts for a couple of months. And I seem to be making somewhere between 300SP and 500SP per week :). Of course, the price of steem has been falling during this time, so the true value that can be earned probably won't be apparent until the price reaches some sort of equilibrium/stability (if it ever does;) ).

However, i did buy a very substantial amount of steem power :). So, I can't really say how it would work for a more moderate investment. But, the good thing now is that since the last fork occurred, rewards are now completely linearly proportional to the amount of steem power you have/vote with.....so I would hope even a more modest amount of steem power might be worthwhile and perhaps pay for itself over time (but only time will tell whether the platform/concept will continue to grow as it needs to I think - because in social networks, the network effort matters!)

Well, investors in STEEM are very similar to shareholders in a company. Which does better for shareholders, a company that has very good customer service or one that has bad customer service? I think the former. Good customer service is a win-win situation for everyone...the network can expect to get more customers through recommendations...and more customers should likely increase the market cap of STEEM ... which means capital gains for shareholders :D

Also, I'm new here but if you want to optimise how much money you can make from it 'how to win friends and influence people' is probably a better strategy than 'how to lose friends and alienate people' type of approach in my opinion! Haha... ;) Whereas on Reddit for example I might take a completely different approach (because money isn't tied to upvotes/downvotes), so it doesn't matter in that regard if you just want to downvote people you might disagree with LOL

And thirdly upvoting doesn't actually cost the up-voter any money (might be a bit different if it did!!! ;) )

Probably easiest way is through the steemit wallet.
Where it shows your amount of STEEM, there's a drop-down menu (click on the triangle icon), select the 'BUY' option.
This takes you to the 'blocktrades' website.
I haven't used this myself but I would expect all you need to do is follow the instructions and sent some bitcoin. Then STEEM should appear in your steemit wallet shortly after.
Of course for this you need some bitcoin first.... but there are lots of ways to get hold of bitcoin these days.
After you get the STEEM in your wallet, then you'll need power it up using the 'power up' option from the same drop-down used above... powering it up is required in order to get the benefit of having steem in order to boost your voting power, earn interest etc... but it does mean these funds are locked up for three months (you can 'power it down' I.e. convert back STEEM...but the conversion back is done evenly over this time.)

This unfortunately true. And this is why a lot of people recommend the dollar cost averaging method for any type of asset...stocks, crypto, whatever. Because it avoids the chance of buying right at the top of a bubble with all your money. If you believe the thing you are investing in should eventually be worth a lot more at some point in the future then the DCA methods guarentees you at least buy some of asset at cheap prices ... and your buy in price will be average price that asset has been at during the time you were investing.

I feel like all the voting was leveraged downward for minnows. One literally has to purchase coin or one is swept under. Overnight my activity was crushed and it's become like a faucet. Well, okay, slightly better than a faucet, but no longer worth the time investment to get in, pull up, and get active gifting back in.

One article compared whales to sock puppets generating a little profit they transferred out while reinvesting out of the reward pool. They've already been accused of forking whenever someone mines more than them, essentially destroying what they had independently mined. We won't hear a thing except from the whales self-promoting.
