I am one of those new users brought in by the article. It's not the first time I have seen Steemit, but the article put a few things in perspective that are non-obvious from interacting with the site. Hoping some of the points made will encourage other new users to join.

Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

  • Disagreement on rewards
  • Fraud or plagiarism
  • Hate speech or trolling
  • Miscategorized content or spam
