Steem Basic Income Giveaway (Design your last meal! )

in steembasicincome •  7 years ago  (edited)

What would be your "perfect" last meal?

I guess that sounds a little morbid, but I mean to say that if you could design your perfect dinner of some of your most favourite foods, what would it look like? It doesn't have to be a huge meal, but I've put one together with some of my favourite foods.

NOTE: Seeing as I'm not directly making this meal, that would probably make me very ill afterwards, I don't have photos of all the foods on hand. So, I'm using photos from the internet with the links through to the recipes. If anyone has an issue with this, please tell me and I'll take the photos down (well, until they get written into the chain...).

Starters

Calamari_Haloumi_Salad_780x3301.jpg

Recipe here

I love chargrilled squid and Holoumi (grilled), so I was really happy when I found this recipe that combined the two. Just a small taster plate though, there is more food to come!

Main course

hong-kong-crispy-noodle-650px.jpg

Recipe here

I love Crispy Chinese Egg Noodles! This one is served with seafood, but I find it best with beef or Char Siu (Chinese BBQ pork). This is pretty much a staple dish in every Chinese restaurant, but to find a good one is really quite tricky! If I couldn't get this, then a good Japanese Ramen is the next choice.

Accompanying drink

Beachamp-Cidre-FamilyGroup_2048x@2x.jpg

Order your sampler case of French cider!

I have no idea if these things go together, but I do love a good French cidre. These ciders are dry and not at all sweet, so if you don't know these and are normally put off by the sweetness, then you really have to try these out!

Dessert

recipe-image-legacy-id--3745_10.jpg

BBC recipe here

Okay, I'm not a mulitple mains sort of person. I'm too small, and quite possibly by this point I will be pretty full.... but there is always room for dessert! Creme Brule is the best, maybe with a side of a sorbet?

Nightcap

dessertwijn-anselmann-cabernet-sauvignon-rose-eiswein-geen_achtergrond.jpg

Try one of every dessert wine here

Normally I would love an Amaretto or Drambuie or this great Cloudberry liquor, but if I have to go fancy, then a nice Eiswein is in order! A sweet wine from Germany served chilled, YUM!

So, for this week's entry. Design your perfect meal of some of your favourite foods. It can be like mine, with absolutely no care for if they fit together or not! It can be small or it can be a 12 course set!

Steem Basic Income

One of the first communities that I came in contact with at the beginning of my time at Steemit was @steembasicincome. As a beginning author, Steemit can be a daunting place. It feels like you are posting into an abyss with no ability to grow. Steem Basic Income gives you a guaranteed vote on one post a day, thus giving you a small but cumulative over time support to your account.

With this post, I want to help sponsor people who might not even have the spare 1 STEEM that is required for registration. So, when this post pays out, I will sponsor people depending on the payout of this post. Basically, I will round up the SBD payout from this post and then that will be the number of people I will sponsor. (So, if the payout is 2.3 SBD, I will sponsor 3 people).

Rules

  1. Upvote if you want, it increases the payout and then I can hopefully sponsor more people.
  2. Resteem is NOT neccessary, but the more people see this, the more the people will be likely to be sponsored.
  3. In the comments, design your perfect meal!
  4. I will be sponsoring as many people as this post pays out in SBD. Also I will kick in at least the required amount to round up to the full number. Winner is at my discretion!

Last week's winners

Well, it appears that a contest about books brings out lots of chatty commentators! Which was a great thing, I don't think I've ever written so many replies!

Last post payout was 1.981 SBD. So, 2 shares that I will be sponsoring. I'll do 3 again, too many great entries to choose from!

@mariannewest

Reading has been my passion ever since I can remember. I am pretty sure that my eyes are as bad as they are because when I was a kid, I read under my covers at night with hardly any light.
Birthdays and Christmas was all about books. I still have a lot of my childhood books I got from my godmother.
She lived in the East part of the divided Germany and I am in the West. They did have a hard time to get many things but books, beautiful books were plentiful. I loved reading them and having them around.
Actually, later I started reading Agatha Christy mysteries and always wanted one of those old English libraries.
That said, most of my reading right now is here on steemit and many of the books I "read" are actually audio books. But I am always tempted.
I have a little free library in front of my house and keep begging people for book donations. Some of those books I want to read first before putting them out there - but see above... Steemit = no time for anything these days.
Here are two books I am trying to get to right now (and 20 more in a pile - at least) One is from the donation box, the other I bought from the author, Toby Hemenway, shortly before he passed away.

@nenad-ristic

I am currently reading several books:
Robert Anton Wilson: Sex, Drugs and Magick by Robert Anton Wilson, since I really love his writing. If I were to guess, I don't think I would have ended up on Steem if I had not been exposed to him.
Anathem by Neal Stephenson - My fiction kick. A monster of a book, with some interesting and challenging concepts.
The Gruffalo by Axel Scheffler and Julia Donaldson - I have a three year old, so I am reading this often.

@kaelci

I'm in the same boat as @viking-ventures at the moment. Currently, most of the things I read are my own writings, over and over and over as I struggle to edit and perfect them and prepare them for the eyes of other people! :D
There is one book that I'm itching to read though. It's one I've read many times before, but you know, you get these urges to read them over again. The author is Roderick Anscombe and the book is The Secret Life of Lazslo, Count Dracula.
( Here is a link to the GoodReads - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1123376.The_Secret_Life_Of_Laszlo_Count_Dracula )
It's a psychiatric interpretation of the classic vampire tale. First person, in diary-entry form, and it's absolutely mesmerising how the author gets you into the character's head, and allows you to truly feel for the guy even as he's... well, doing what he does. It's fantastic. I can't recommend it enough!

Thanks to everyone who submitted an entry, I plan to do this (as long as I can keep coming up with decent questions) for a while, so come back and have a go!

For starters:
Ameijoas à bulhão pato. It is Clams with a sauce made with olive and garlic, with some lemon to spray over. Toast and butter is recommended to dip in the sauce. Alongside it, a cold glass of Antónia Adelaide Ferreira Branco (my great great great grand mother)

For main dish, Francesinha, a typical dish from my town made of toast, steak, sausage, chourizo, smoked ham (and a few other "meats"), covered in melted cheese, egg, and a special sauce made with beer, hard liquor, and spices. It is some sort of heart attack on a plate. To drink with it, a local beer, Super Bock.

And for dessert, pudim abade de priscos, a pudin made of sugar, lemon, cinnamon, caramel and a bit of port wine.

Last but not least, a glass of Port wine, Alves de Sousa, vintage 2011.

Ha ha, Yes heart attack on a plate! The starter and dessert look particularly good!

Looks yummy!

I usually eat what I love, so my last meal would consist of many years worth of food... However, I can concoct a menu for the purpose of this post!

A bowl of koutia (a traditional Ukrainian xmas dish)

Spring roll/ pekora appetizer platter (with a samosa just because!

A boul of corn and crab soup with a side of Hunan dumplings... Which are just dumplings in a peanut sauce...

For desert, triple chocolate brownies and a custard cream filled pie covered with fruit and a glaze on top.

A mint tea would do the trick to help wash all this down!

Thanks for this clever post...

Wow, a very nice mix of different foods from different countries! Thanks for the entry!

I forgot the midnight snack for this meal, cause I would always leave room for this, my mom's Yorkshire pudding with a roast of some kind with tons of gravy...20180516_222757.jpg

Oh yes! That looks like just the right thing just before sleeping!

Hahaha, only a little, too much gives me nightmares!

Awesome! The books I am currently reading Flash Boys and Too big to Fail.

Flash boys is about the rise and unfairness (in the beginning) of high frequency trading and...

Too big to fail is about how the bankers got away without spending a single moment in jail during the financial crisis

Ha, I think the books are last week's question! Unless you are feeling like eating those!

In the case i get my last meal I must have done something really bad to let the lawyer and the judge decide the death penalty over me. :-(

But I would be faster than the hangman who kills me at least!

My three serving meal:

At first I would eat a very big Cannabis-cake to be chilled and relaxed for the next serve!
The second meal would be a pizza with opium poppy and a little bit heroin on top to be in a warmfeeling dreamland.
At least comes the last: after eating i would enjoy may last espresso with a socyanuric acid topping...

END and OVER

Me first, hangman last :-)

I am reading some german books about psychology and also nature science!
Because i got a babybird to raise I read a book about this!

Thank you for this chance! Best Regards, Markus

Ha ha, I'm not sure how tasty the meal would be! But it would definitely be a very relaxing one!

Never die stressed up!

Thank you so much!! :D
I won't enter this one since I won an SBI share in the last one, but just wanted to say that my last dessert would definitely be a tiramisu... after pondering the question I'm kind of craving one right now and may have to rectify the hunger situation.

Ha ha, Yes that seems to be reaction of most of the entries, a sudden desire to find the food!

Tiramasu looks great, I definitely would also like that. Oddly enough that plate looks like some of ours...

yagh, that's pretty morbid, however ...

with my last dying breath

i'll pass on the share in favour of people who havent got one yet, but if you really feel the need to give me more, i will ofcourse not stop you, the more i have the faster i can give

Ha ha! Satisfying but not very tasty!

Feel free to enter, it's always better to have more shares!

i'm fine ... i just had one :)

if you have too much money then just give it to me i won't mind

but if you're giving a share give it to someone who doesnt have one yet

best marketing strategy

once you get more you can get into nepo and friends politics

but the base would be

to not give trade secrets away, right ?

i love the system that lets you give as much as you get i havent quite seen that anywhere before

Ha, I hope I avoid the friend politics because I don't want it to become like that. I'm afraid that marketing is a poor skill of mine.

I feel like giving away the post payout as shares is more fair. I already get back something in the sponsorship, so it doesn't seem fair to keep part of the SBD payout as well!

I was reading along, admiring the choices and the photos, and then -- this! It seriously cracked me up! (I might have even cackled a little...)

For me it is much more important who I would get to eat with than what that meal is.

Oh yes, definitely good company makes everything taste better! Even better if you eat them afterwards! 😁

Mine was going to be all about the steak until @marie-jay reminded me of ham!

I might just have a few bites of each thing, but these are the flavors I'd like to have lingering on my tongue as I leave this world.

Crispy fresh salad with toasted walnuts. A simple oil and vinegar dressing with fresh-baked sourdough rolls and real butter.
New York strip steak, medium rare, heavy on the garlic. Sauteed mushrooms in butter and garlic.
Then a nice thick ham steak with a side of mashed sweet potatoes drizzled with butter and sprinkled with brown sugar and toasted pecans.
I have to avoid sweets but for this meal I'd have a slice of baklava dripping with honey, a bit of tiramisu and a dab of creme brulee.
As a final drink make mine a Rusty Nail (Drambuie and Scotch over ice).

Now I'm craving all of these!

Hmmmm... I'm starting to think I shouldn't have gone down the "Last Meal", sounds worse than it is!

Anyway, toasted nuts are always tasty, and nice simple salad is a perfect mix! Steak and Ham... I prefer lamb to steak, but Christmas ham.... yum! I like the idea of a small plate of nice stuff at the end, and the Rusty Nail sounds like something I will try for myself (I love Drambuie, so it is a small step from there!).

I do miss having a nice after dinner drink now and then. There are a few I liked when I was younger - sloe gin fizz, Kahlua and cream, rum and coke. I wanted to like brandy but it's yucky to me. A Rusty Nail is a perfect blend!

Oh no, I think last meal is a good topic because there's no thought of going on a diet the next day! I would have made different choices if I was going to have to deal with the aftereffects! :-)

Right now I would eat at In and Out!

I would order a double cheeseburger, fries and a large strawberry shake.

I am starving right now and that is what I thought of.

So many good foods out there, it makes it really hard to narrow it down. I will put some thought into it and try to remember to come back.

Your rules still say to comment about books, so you might want to edit before you start getting some really confusing entries. Why do all these people want books for their last meal?

Lol, oops. I'd better fix that!

We probably need to start a Goodreads Steemit group! I actually stopped reading for a while but seeing that last competition made me want to curl up in bed with a nice book in hand :) I keep missing these book related challenges and was wondering what @rarebooksleuth might have been reading :p

I couldn't decide between what I would have if it was my last meal... something that was pleasantly surprisingly and different or something that I could eat everyday... so I put them both here:

The lobster omelette that I once had at Tea House at Chinatown (I can not find a photo, but someone agrees with me just how good it is):
https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowUserReviews-g255100-d944182-r355453483-Tea_House_at_Chinatown-Melbourne_Victoria.html

And the humble corn on the cob (with a bit of butter):

https://www.sbs.com.au/food/recipes/barbecued-corn-herb-butter

Not that I would drink something like this with the meal, but having to scull a tall glass of Hendricks was not as unpleasant an experience as I expected so that sounds like a pretty good way to dull the senses for what has to follow after the meal :D

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Hey plushzilla!

Lobster omelette. Sounds like it shouldn't work, but there are now two people! Maybe I should try it, but Melbourne is a touch far at the moment.

Gin, so many people like it.. Why?

I only mentioned the restaurant in Melbourne because the way they made the omelette was so fluffy and light that I didn't think I was eating one! But maybe it is not for everyone and even I only stumbled upon it randomly (as you do in Melbourne).

I can't say that I like alcohol much at all because I am sensitive to the taste (after having my head stuck in a fume hood for years and sniffing so much ethanol you would think it would be the opposite), but for some reason Hendricks in a tall glass with mint and cucumber goes down without me even noticing it... maybe that's what happens when you scull alcohol? It certainly doesn't feel quite as smooth when I have had to drink other types of alcohol quickly :p

Next time I'm in Melbourne! Maybe next year... For some reason, I have the complete opposite reaction to gun, it makes me nauseous!

My last meal?! Since I don't have to worry about calories anymore...well...
I won't go for fancy, complicated things... for starters, I'd like some very fresh bread with butter and some really good ham. There's nothing better in this world than fresh bread and butter... but the calories in it...
schnitzel-germany.jpg
Then, I'll have French fries with schnitzel (made from pork, not chicken). I'd prepare these myself...and throw in some garlic and some salad and maybe even pickles... cucumbers, preferably. And cold beer, to go with it!
Since it's my last meal - a very large piece of chocolate cake and some ice-cream on the side. I once had a delicious ice-cream with whiskey on it in Paris - I'll have to order that! Or maybe I could go to Paris for it... just sayin'... And then some more whiskey! (Jameson would do!)
In the end, a good strong coffee with whipped cream. I can make that, too, but, on the other hand a barista able to make it with coconut flavor would be nice! If it's not too much to ask!
(Nice challenge... so much fun thinking of all that good food!)

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

A nice hearty meal! Schnitzel is great, and if you have nice chips or knödel are a great side.

1200px-Semmelknödel.jpg

Whiskey Ice cream, now that I will have to try. Sounds like a step up from rum and raisin.u

My last meal - all fine things made of chocolate, vanilla crisp ice cream, exotic fruits and bottle of mineral strawberry flavored water. I want to go bubbly, fruity and super-happy.

Starter + Drink:

IMG_0177.JPG
I want to start with something fishy :D A simple kaisendon which is a bowl with lots of freshly killed fish. Accompanied by a glass of umeshu which is delicious plum wine (I made this photo somewhere in the neighbourhood of Tsukiji Market in Tokyo)

Main course:
IMG_20171015_191203.jpg

Beef burger with fries! Because I wanna taste some buns before I die :D (Photo made in a Burger Bar in Utrecht)

Dessert + drink:
IMG_3705.JPG
A bowl of sweet Japanese desserts with a warm cup of Mattcha latte. I love it a latte :D (Photo made in Japan town in Dusseldorf :D)

Night cap
IMG_2961.JPG
And to conclude it a bottle of Dutch Courage to erase my memory :D (Photo made in random supermarket in Japan)

Ohhh, this looks nice and with lots of colour! The orange fish eggs, I love them so much, and thanks for reminding me about the plum wine! I have a bottle that in the fridge that I keep having a ship every now and then from.

Desserts are a nice mix, curious as to what they all are. You are also a Gin person (bleah!), although you should try the Dutch gin (Jenever), that one I like especially when it is flavoured.

The fluffy bread thing is like a pancake. It has red beans inside. The brown coated sticks are chocolate sticks. The dark green stuff are rice cakes covered in green tea and there is a variety of icecreams with Japanese style croutons.

Jenever is nice too. How about korenwijn?

That I haven't tried, it's a OP version of Jenever?

Modern korenwijn is the traditional Jenever. It is mostly made up of malt wine and does not contain the Jenever berries. So it somewhere in between a berry Jenever and a malt whiskey. Korenwijn complements a bite of herring quite well :)

Ha ha, herring is still not a taste that I've acquired!

I usually dont drink anything while eating, but can be water or coffee after food :)

Mm mm lentil soup, my wife makes a great lentil soup! Lamb cutlets are also one of my favourite foods. Tiramasu seems to be many people's top choice, and a good coffee is really hard to beat. No milk and no sugar!

And thats how I drink my Coffee no milk and no sugar :)
