Hannah is still with no child, yet her countenance is no more sad. The disciples are without their Lord, yet tranquil in the upper room. Abraham is without Isaac, yet calm in the promises of God.
Nothing is broken, but something is missing
It seems.
The night of prayer is over and as he walks away, and as the sun rises upon him; Jacob is limping. Fiercely whipped and inhumanely shackled, exhausted and in the dungeon; Silas and Paul are singing
Nothing is missing, but something is broken.
It seems.
All her men are gone, Naomi returns to Israel with a Moabitess, broken. All his family is wiped out, his body covered in sores, Job is huddled in the corner, broken. David has just come home with his men, and their houses are burnt down, all their women and children missing. His strong men, are wailing like babies, and thinking of pelting him, with stones. David is broken, and he weeps.
Both missing and broken, it seems.
Yet it only seems.
For we walk by faith and not by sight. And He keeps in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him.
Abraham became the father of nations. The sorrow of Hannah was more fruitful than the boasting of Peninah. Paul and Silas accomplished a mighty deliverance. And David recovered all.
Peace is the emblem of trust.
It means nothing missing, nothing broken. Not because of the outward situations, but because of the integrity of the faithful God.
It is a force that passes all understanding.
Hallelujah!!
