The Price Of Discipline [PART TWO]

in steemchurch •  7 years ago  (edited)

Every person born of a woman has a purpose to fulfill in life; God has designed every individual to fulfill a divine purpose. But this will be greatly difficult without Discipline.

In this piece, in continuance to my previous post "The Price Of Discipline [Part One]" we shall carefully look at:

i. The relationship between Destiny and Discipline.
ii. Practical Relevance of Discipline in our lives.

Please, I advise you read through with a reasonable level of attention, Okay?

So, let’s prepare our minds with...

The Story of the Destiny Child

In the time yore, Israel as a nation served the Egyptians for so many years before they finally gained freedom. They had an adventurous expedition from the wilderness to the promised land, which God had prepared for them; and each time it seems as though they've been liberated from a national slavery, they got themselves into another captivity.

Again the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years.

Now there was a certain man from Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren and had no children. And the Angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her,
“Indeed now, you are barren and have borne no children, but you shall conceive and bear a son. Now, therefore, please be careful not to drink wine or similar drink, and not to eat anything unclean. For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. And no razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb; and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.” Judges 13:1-5

Looking at the scriptural text above, God needed to use someone to bring his people out of the bondage they got themselves into by the reason of their sins. And for this reason, He appeared unto a woman who had been looking for a child, and gave her a clear vision of what he wanted to do in her life, as well as the brief of the child she would give birth to.

Full of astonishment, and stunned by the angelic visitation (one she probably had not experienced since she was born), this woman told her husband the 'news'. In a nutshell, they did give birth to a son, whose name was Samson.

Samson was a destiny child.

But, the question is did he actually fulfilled his destiny?

While we try to answer this question, let’s look at the practical relevance of discipline in the life of an individual.

Why You Must Be Disciplined [Practical Relevance of Discipline in our lives]

1. Put Off Drawbacks

Discipline prevents self-caused drawbacks in a person's life. Every of our action has its consequences, including indiscipline. Taking the life of David for instance, though he was regarded as the man after God’s heart when he committed the adulterous act with the Beersheba, and not only that, masterminded the death of her husband (Uriah) just to cover his shame, there were consequences for his actions…
(2 Samuel 11-12)

2. To Fulfill Destiny

A child needs to be nurtured and brought up in a godly way, and when he becomes of age he will barely depart from such standards for living… and to fulfill destiny! (Proverbs 22:6) [paraphrased!]
Now, you will ask, “Was Samson not brought in the way of the Lord?”

Personally, I think he was, and in fact, he was told by his parent the intriguing fact about his birth... His mother, probably, must have frequently reechoed this to him:

“Samson love, always know that you’re special, okay? Do not allow a razor to come upon your head— on no circumstance should you have a haircut”

But what happened? Indiscipline truncated his destiny. We are all familiar with the narration of how a foreign and treacherous woman, Delilah capitalized on his sexual lust to cause his downfall.

3. Give Birth To Excellence

Scriptures say in Daniel 6:3:

Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps because an excellent spirit was in him, and the king gave thought to set him over the whole realm.

This is what discipline does to the life of an individual; it makes excellence evident in his or her life. That is to say, discipline sets one apart from the crowd, even as it produces excellence. A man who chooses to uphold discipline is set out for excellence.
Also, Joseph is another very good example to support this point. He wouldn’t just give in the pressure of Potiphar’s wife…

In conclusion

Fulfilling our God’s divine purpose will practically be impossible without discipline.

But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:27

There is a price for every human achievement, until this is fulfilled, no Man can earn the prize, we must be ready to sacrifice, delay gratification, avoid carelessness, be wise and not be foolish, we must contend for competence, relevance, we must detest/shun irrelevances of life, and always we must strive for knowledge so as to achieve it and be stand out among others.
