Kingdom of heaven” is a term used exclusively in the Gospel of Matthew. The apostle Matthew used “kingdom of heaven” 32 times in his account about Jesus Christ’s life and teachings. However, Matthew uses the terms “kingdom of heaven” and “kingdom of God” interchangeably. In Matthew 19:23-24 he uses the terms together in consecutive verses, clearly implying that they were synonymous. Often he calls it simply “the kingdom” ( Matthew 6:13 ; Matthew 8:12; Matthew 13:19 , Matthew 13:38 ;
Matthew 24:14 ; etc.)
Comparing passages like Matthew 5:3 and Luke 6:20
shows that the terms meant the same thing:
>3 Blessed are the poor in spirit for. theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
(Matthew 5:3)
20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
(Luke 6:20)

WHY DID MATTHEW USE “THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN”?
Since the phrase “kingdom of God” is the predominant name used by writers of the Bible (this phrase appears 70 times in the New King James Version of the Bible),some wonder why Matthew used “the kingdom of heaven.” While the Bible doesn’t specifically answer this question, understanding the common perceptions of the Jews during the first century sheds light on why it was likely used.Apparently, the author chose this term to counter the Jewish perception that the coming of the Messiah would include the overthrow of the civil government.Commenting on this perception, Albert Barnes states: “The Jews expected a great national deliverer. They supposed that when the Messiah should appear, all the dead would be raised,that the judgment would take place; and that the enemies of the Jews would be destroyed, and that they themselves would be advanced to great national dignity and honor.“The language in which they were accustomed to describe this event was retained by our Saviour and his apostles. Yet they early attempted to correct the common notions respecting his reign.This was one design, doubtless, of John in preaching
repentance.Instead of summoning them to military exercises, and collecting an army, which would have been in accordance with the expectations of the nation, he called them to a change of life,to the doctrine of repentance—a state of things far more accordant with the approach of a kingdom of purity”(notes on Matthew 3:2)

SEEK THE KINGDOM FIRST

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
( Matthew 6:33 ).

The verse’s meaning is as direct as it sounds. We are to seek the things of God as a priority over the things of the world. Primarily, it means we are to seek the salvation that is inherent in the kingdom of God because it is of greater value than all the world’s riches. Does this mean that we should neglect the reasonable and daily duties that help sustain our lives? Certainly not. But for the Christian, there should be a difference in attitude toward them. If we are taking care of God’s business as a priority—seeking His salvation, living in obedience to Him, and sharing the good news of the kingdom with others—then He will take care of our business as He promised.
