Romans 12:2 Amplified Bible (AMP)
2 And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be [a]transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].

God has a plan and design for each of us, but we will not enjoy it unless we let ourselves be transformed by His word.
When the mind and thoughts have been renewed by the word of God, a part of the soul has been transformed as we begin to have God's thoughts and not ours is when our will and emotions are inexorably subject to the will of God.
On our own we could not achieve any change in our lives, our effort would be totally useless, only the word through the revelation of the Spirit of God brings freedom.

We must not be satisfied with the thoughts of the system of this world, our refusal to be part of this system of the world must go beyond behavior and customs, it is a total change for the culture of the Kingdom rooted in our minds that is unshakable.This change leads us to spiritual maturity and therefore we focus on living lives that please God ,we then see for ourselves what is his pleasing and perfect will around all that concerns our life.

To live according to the criteria of the present time is to live far from God's plan for us,Nor should we try to adjust the world to the Kingdom because it has no place there, because it is totally contrary to God because of selfishness, the whole system of the world is focused on the ME but the Kingdom is to give ourselves to others.
