Put to death, therefore, the earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, disordered passions, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. "

The first advice here is to put to death, place in the area of death and time in the original Greek of this mandate, suggests a decisive action.
And the apostle was going to include a list not very numerous but very representative of human nature. First, he mentioned sexual immorality. There are many people who cover up the sins of this category and even consider themselves dedicated Christians. Paul openly exposed these sins and told us that we should place the physical part of our body in the place of death. Do your eyes cause you problems? Is yours a look of greed, or a look of lust? Put those eyes, that way of looking at a place or condition of death, and then use them as the eyes of Christ, so that you can contemplate Him. Dear friend, that act will change your perspective.
Then we have in this verse the reference to impurity. This term includes thoughts, words, looks, gestures, attitudes, and jokes, that is, the way we express our sense of humor.
Messy passions remain on the list. Sometimes Christians confess to a spiritual counselor a particular sin in their lives. Some often say then: "Well, I could not help it." We would have to tell those people that, to begin with, they should not have been in that place or in that situation. Sometimes a person is consciously exposed to certain situations in which he knows that he will have to fight against temptation, because he knows his weak points.

Continue the list with the bad wishes, which include the above elements but is a more general term. They must also be made to die.
And the apostle ended the list with greed, which is idolatry. He who is dominated by greed, always feels that he must have more. And it is a form of idolatry because it implies seeking satisfaction in earthly things, instead of seeking it in the heavenlies. Is it possible that a Christian is dominated by money in such a way that he has lost interest in his relationship with the living Christ? Many people are overcome by greed, driven by cravings that they can never satisfy because they will never be satisfied. They will always want to have more.
These issues can be painful. Because our bodies are dwellings or rooms of the Holy Spirit, and they are to be used for God.
We could even say that greed is the root of most problems in all nations. As we see, the Bible has very direct words to describe the evils of all times. It is evident that the word "corruption" has become a term too often repeated in the media. In this sense, the apostle Paul wrote in his first letter to Timothy 6:10, a very timely conclusion: the root of all evils is the love of money. Money is not the problem, because it can be used for the honor and glory of God. Many people, including many who profess to be Christians, are falling into idolatry by worshiping this idol. Dear friend, remember that if you are in Christ, if your life is united to Christ's, He will always have priority; He has the first place. And then you will seek the things above, the heavenly things, those that have to belong to the kingdom of God.
