Yesterday I talked about the steps or tips to help you strengthen your Integrity. However today, I will talk about the 5 Essential Traits of good Character. The traits are way more than the five I will discuss today but it's definitely a good five to start with especially when you want to build your character.

We have heard quite a number of times that character is everything. Never does a man portray his character more obviously than when he is talking about the character of another. Trust me, the way or manner we behave is of immense concern to God our maker. While humans will actually concentrate on the talent you've got, God actually looks at your character.

The kind of character you portray is often the reflected through the kind of decisions you take or through your actions.If you have ever been in a situation where you won and you want to repeat the feat, you need character. We may continue talking about character but you sure know what it's all about. Therefore let's quickly see the 5 Essential Traits of a good character.

The first essential trait I will talk about is the one Is the topic I wrote about yesterday tagged integrity. A man of integrity doesn't live a double life. The second essential trait of character I will discuss today is Self Sacrifice. A whole lot of people do not have the ability to sacrifice whatever they have for the good and benefits of others. It doesn't have to necessarily be money. It could be an idea which you have thought about, it could be a design that can save peoples life from harm, it could just be anything. We fail to follow the example of God who could sacrifice his Son for our sake. If you are a leader who has the effect ability for self Sacrifice, there is hardly anything that your followers won't do for you. However showing good character means that you don't use people to work just for yourself alone. We must be able to sacrifice what we have, what we love for the general benefit of others.

The third essential trait of good Character is honesty. I for one cannot trust any dishonest individual. Since I was a child, I have always been told that the best legacy you can every have is being honest. I have heard when people say about others for example "This person does not have money , he can be anything but he is very honest". If you ask me, that's just about enough to impress your maker. If you are honest, you are living a legacy that your children children will love to enjoy. Are you in an office where everybody is lying but you refused to join and led to your sack, God has better plans from you. God loves honest people.

The fourth essential trait of good character is loyalty. Loyalty is very essential to everyone. Let people most especially your friends know that you are a kind of person who will not abandon them in difficult times. There are some friends we call weather friends. They are never loyal to a cause. When the tide is calm and peaceful, they come so close to you, and the tide becomes boisterous, they flee only to return when it's calm. A person with good character is supposed to show loyalty at all times.

The last essential trait of good character is accountability. I have seen several leaders who never agree they make mistakes. They never take correction and when you try to correct them, leads to your sack. Nobody will want to work with such a kind of leader. A person or leader with good character is one who listens and is open to suggestions from all and sundry and is ready to take responsibility for the mistakes he has committed. That's the kid to character we all should portray. We should realise that life is a school itself. We learn everyday ......
