DO U SHOW GRATITUDE IN LIFE???

Before delving on ways we can show gratitude,or if we have an appreciative spirit in us, knowing what the term "Gratitude" is will be a plus.

WHAT IS GRATITUDE?

"GRATITUDE" simply means showing appreciation over the good deed done to us. It also means a feeling of being greatful. When one shows gratitude or appreciates a kind gesture done to him/ her, it stirs or motivates the giver more fully to do more. So it is a vital quality that we as christains should cultivate because it will help us more fully in our relationship with others and God mostly.

WHO IS A LEPER/ WHAT IS LEPROSY?

A Leper is an infected person with leprosy and shunned by others. While LEPROSY is a contagious disease which affects the skin and can result to gradual loss of body tissues such as that of the fingers, toes or ears and it makes the carrier unclean.

TEN LEPERS HEALED- ONLY ONE SHOWS GRATITUDE

According to the scriptures at Luke 17:11-19,
JESUS CHRIST after fraustrating the plans of the sanhendrin to kill him, traveled to the city of Euphraim somewhat North-east of Jerusalem, stayed with his disciples away from his enemies. During his trip as he travelled from one village to another. He encountered TEN MEN who had leprosy.

God's law requires that a leper who sights people approaching them should call out "Unclean! Unclean!! Unclean" and that he lives in isolation. (Leviticus 13:45 & 46)

The lepers even at a distance cried out loudly "Jesus, Instructor have mercy on us! On seeing the lepers, Jesus directs them: "Go,and show yourselves to the priests". He (Jesus) shows respect for God's law which authorises the priest to pronounce as cured lepers who have recovered from their illness. Before they can live once again among healthy people.(LUKE 17: 13&14).

TURNING POINT

The lepers because of the confidence they have in Jesus miraculous powers, they head off to see the priest, even before they had been healed. But Alas! On their way, their faith in Jesus was rewarded. They began to see and feel they had been restored to good health.

POWER OF GRATITUDE

Nine of the cleansed lepers continued to meet the priest but one does not, a samaritan, he returns to look for Jesus Christ simply because "this man is deeply greatful to Jesus for what has happened. The former leper glorified God with a loud voice knowing fully well that God was actually responsible for his healing (Luke17:15).

At finding Jesus, he falls down before him and thanked him. Jesus Turned to people around him and said "all ten were cleansed were they not, where then are the other nine? Did no one else turned back to give glory to God except this man of another nation?, Then Jesus tells the samaritan: "Get up and be on your way, your faith has made you well (Luke 17: 17-19).

MORAL LESSON

  • By healing the lepers, Jesus shows he has God's backing. Now the samaritan was not only healed through Jesus act but likely is on the way to everlasting life.
  • it is very important that we build our faith in God so strong, because faith is the bedrock of attaining God's blessings. That is why the scriptures rightly said " without faith, it is impossible to please God well".
  • We should always show gratitude as did the samaritan man whenever a good deed is being done to us.
  • May we keep reflecting on God's miraculous deeds, and benefit greatly because it will enhance our relationship with God and our fellow humans.
