Gracious day to all my fellow stemians....greatful i am to God for a blessed day, i hope we all are in good health? After my personal bible study on the gospel of Mattew 25, the lessons are worth sharing with loved one's. As we live in the last days, its of greatest importance that we pay attention to things around us and learn. A little definition on what VIGILANCE is will enable us benefit from this topic more.

WHAT IS VIGILANCE

VIGILANCE simply means alert to possible dangers or problems, being conscious of unforseen occurencies and being alert on how to avert them and not being a victim.
Knowing fully well what being vigilance is will help us on how to be observant,careful, doing the right things, thereby not being prone to dangers and regrets.

THE TEN VIRGINS

JESUS CHRIST during his earthly ministry was the greatest teacher who ever liveth because of how he reaches the hearts of individuals at large through parables and illustrations. According to matt25:1&2

The kingdom of the heavens may be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were discreet.

Jesus never meant that some of his disciples who will inherit the kingdom of the heavens are foolish and the other are discreet. Rather his emphasis is that each of his disciples has the capacity to choose to be vigilant or distracted.
In the illustration, all ten vigins go out to welcome the bridegroom and join the wedding procession. On arrival of the couple, the virgins will light the route with their lamps, honouring him as he brings his bride to the house he made for her.

BUT WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME?

The foolish virgins took their lamps but took no oil with them, whereas the wise ones took oil in their flasks along with their lamps. While the bridegroom was delaying, they all became drowsy and fell asleep...(matt25:3-5).

The bridegroom does not arrive as soon as expected because of unforseen occurences during which the virgins fall asleep.
But alas when the bridegroom finally arrives " right in the middle of the night there was a shout..Here is the bridegroom! Go out to meet him.....

VIGILANCE REWARDED

Then all those virgins got up and put their lamps in order. The foolish said to the discreet, 'Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are about to go out.' The discreet answered saying ' perhaps there may not be enough for both us and you. Go instead to those who sell it, and buy some for yourselves'_ Matt 25:7-9.

Because the five foolish virgins were not vigilant and prepared, they went to find oil for their lamps, Jesus relates,

while they were going off to buy it, the bridegroom came. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Afterward, the rest of the virgins also came saying, 'Sir, Sir, open to us! In answer he said, i tell you the truth, i do not know you'. Matt25:10-12

Indeed the outcome was a sad one for not remaining vigilant and prepared!

SUMMARY

• we need to be wise and discreet like the faithful discreet virgins, ready, dressed and have our lamps burning.

• we need to keep on the watch, therefore because we never know the day nor the hour_ matt 25:13

• being prepared and vigilance will help us avoid regrets and not loosing sight of our precious hope and miss out on the reward that can be ours.
