The history of the Samaritan woman, from a human perspective, could lead us to think that the only purpose of our Lord Jesus Christ when he was alone in the well was to have a rest while his disciples bought something in the city. eat. But he had other plans. He had chosen to go through Samaria because he was looking for a woman who urgently needed him. And in her omniscience she knew that in that hour she would go to the well to draw water.
In this way a meeting is begun, which can serve as an example of how JESUS evangelized and loved the lost. Look at the simple and special way in which the Lord exposes the truth to the woman, showed her his spiritual need, awakened her conscience, answered all the questions that disturbed her soul, to finally bring her to faith in Him.
In this beautiful verse, where the Lord shows the great love of God to this woman, infallible truths stand out. Here he is teaching powerful and eternal truths. Jesus, despite the refusal of the woman, let's notice how she presents the problem, because there was a serious problem in her. He begins by saying: "if you knew" this has a certain touch of mystery, which has the purpose of causing strangeness in the woman and forcing her to reflect; It is a way to encourage women to ask more questions.
Then he tells her of the "gift of God," because the woman did not know God's gift. We can imagine some of his thoughts at that moment - what would that gift consist of? Does God really want to give me something? ... It was suspicious that someone wanted to give something without receiving anything in return.
But to the surprise of the woman, Jesus speaks of himself: "if you knew who, it is he who says to you: give me to drink" How much love and mercy there was in those words! Although she had no idea who was talking to her, for the first time she felt something special in her heart, a sincerity of that man !, which was breaking her whole soul. There He was presenting Himself as "the gift of God to the sinful world" In Him, God has manifested all his grace, mercy, justice, forgiveness, sanctification in favor of men.
And he continues saying: "you would ask him, and he would give you living water" Jesus Christ was making a really important, impressive offer to the Samaritan woman; and this despite the fact that she had refused to give him even a little water from the well.
When considering the attitude of the woman, we can have a very poor opinion of her, however, she constantly acts as a human being, she refuses to give to GOD what rightly belongs to her in our lives, but even so He keeps looking to offer us his precious gift, "the living water". Although, of course, all this was simply an illustration of the spiritual truths, of which the Lord used, to share with the woman and thus prop up eternal life and quench his spiritual thirst with inexhaustible blessings.
Beloved ... it is important to know that although this "living water" is available to all men completely free of charge, only those who ask for it will be able to appropriate it.
Also in this meeting the man also wanted this woman to know what was his true "identity" and he cared to show it to her, because he knew that she was tired, exhausted, and that this water was not what she needed to satisfy her "thirst". The water that He was offering was for eternal life, to satisfy their fear, fears, lack of identity, self-esteem. The Lord was teaching her how valuable she was as a woman and the respect that should be given, which from that moment He offered to change life forever.
REFLECTION.
Today, many continue looking for a source that will bring success, satisfaction, but everything is in vain, because they can not be satiated and feel safe in adversity. Only "living water" that Jesus Christ offers can provide a happy, fruitful, full, successful and eternal life to the children of men. That invitation is now latent and extended to all human beings. Why be thirsty, if you can satisfy yourself, without paying anything in return? Jesus Christ paid for us, He did everything. This also teaches us that God does not respect people, because although Samaritans and Jews did not treat each other, this did not allow Jesus in his mercy, could not grant his gift, which is the gift of God: salvation. The "gift of God" is the gift of salvation, which he offers you, so that you may be free from slavery, and you may quench your thirst. Because in such a way God loved us, that he did not spare his son, but gave him up, to give us life and life in abundance. This woman in obedience did everything Jesus asked of her and gave her access to the spring of living water that refreshes and needed her soul. He recognized the "gift of God" and accepted his gift.
The gift of God is the gift of salvation, which he offers you, so that you may be free from slavery, and you may quench your thirst. Because in such a way God loved us, that he did not spare his son, but gave him up, to give us life and life in abundance.

He that drinks the living water shall never thirst again! Indeed, the Samaritan woman saved herself that day when she decided to give Jesus water to drink. Thanks for sharing.

This is exceptional and carries a lot of lessons, the gift Jesus wanted to give was literally not water, because nomatter how we consume it we will stiil be thirsty but it was salvation because who ever he decides to show mercy is saved forever.@riccio1 i wrote something like this the other day thanks for giving me a new biew on this topic

Irrespective of where we come from let us not dicriminate each other. For he has so many ways of encountering with us. We have to be saved in his name. Let us seek salvation and he shall stretch forth his hands.

Yeah. The Bible says ask and it shall be given unto you. The gift of God is the greatest gift and the complete package but humans are blindsighted because of our carnal way
