Steemchurch:The rich fool

Today the values are upside down. What really has value seems unimportant, while what is cheap and insignificant seems important.

We live in a world that emphasizes the material, the financial success, the health, the economy, the accumulation of possessions. This is what happened in the passage that we are going to study today:

A man who had not been paying attention to the sermon told Jesus: (Luke 12:13) "... One of the crowd said to him, Master, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me ..."

Jesus looked at what was in this man's heart. Jesus detected his problem. (Luke 12:15) "... And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; because the life of man does not consist in the abundance of the goods that he possesses ... "

Jesus concluded his exhortation by giving a parable; the parable speaks of a rich person who did not know what to do with so many goods, and decides that he will destroy his granaries to build bigger ones, and then rest.

But God tells him that he was going to die that same night, and ends the story by asking a question: Who is going to keep what he has accumulated? to the man in the parable.

In today's time, many people consider it highly successful. This man made four mistakes:

1. MISTAKE # 1: HAD THE VALUES IN THE BACK:

The rich man was obsessed with his riches; there is not a single mention of remembering God. Those who are obsessed with the things of the world lose sight of what really matters in life.

(2 Corinthians 4:18) "... not looking at us the things that are seen, but those that are not seen; for the things that are seen are temporary, but the things that are not seen are eternal ... "

(Matthew 16:26) "... For what will it profit a man, if he will gain the whole world, and lose his soul? Or what reward will a man give for his soul? ... "

(Matthew 6:33) "... But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you ..."

(Luke 12:20) "... But God said to him: You fool, tonight your soul comes to ask you; and what you have provided, whose will it be? ... "

People spend their lives accumulating fortunes, but in the end, what will it take?

(Psalm 49: 16-17) "... Do not be afraid when one is enriched, When the glory of his house increases; 17 For when he dies he will take nothing away, and his glory will not descend after him ... "

(Job 1:21) "... and said: Naked I came out of my mother's womb, and naked I will go back there. Jehovah gave, and Jehovah took away; may the name of Jehovah be blessed ... "

(1 Timothy 6: 7) "... because we have brought nothing to this world, and without a doubt we can take nothing ..."

What does not prevail until eternity should not occupy the first places in our life.

(Matthew 6: 19-20) "... Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust corrupt, (A) and where thieves break in and steal; 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal ... "

2.MISTAKE # 2: WAS SELFISH

In three verses there are five times the proper pronouns (mi, mis)

(Luke 12: 17-19) "... And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have nowhere to keep my fruits? 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build them greater, and there will I store all my fruit and my goods; 19 and I will say to my soul: Alma, many goods you have kept for many years; rejoice, eat, drink, rejoice ... "

• ILLUSTRATION:

A Christian businessman told his pastor: that he had so much money that he did not know what to do with it.

After a month the church asked for a special offering for a good cause. The surprise for the pastor was that this man gave less than other people who were not as wealthy as he did.

"I have so much money that I do not know what to do with it"
So many people in need
So many people who have to go to bed hungry
So many widows and orphans in need
(Ephesians 4:28) "... The one who stole, do not steal any more, but work, doing with his hands what is good, so that he has something to share with those who have need ..."

(Galatians 6:10) "... So, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, and especially to those of the family of faith ..."

  1. MISTAKE No. 3: BELIEVED THAT ONLY OF BREAD THE MAN WILL LIVE

(Matthew 4: 4) "... He answered and said: It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God ..."

How many times have we heard: How happy it would be if I only had this or that! Someone said: THE WHOLE WORLD FOLLOWS THE TRACE TO HAPPINESS, BUT MANY WERE WRONG WITH THE WAY. Let's not forget that the soul will never be satiated with things.

  1. MISTAKE Nº 4: BELIEVED THAT HE COUNTED MANY YEARS LATER TO LIVE AND PROSPER

(Luke 12:19) "... and I will say to my soul: Soul, many goods you have kept for many years; rejoice, eat, drink, rejoice ... "

(Luke 12:20) "... But God said to him: You fool, tonight your soul comes to ask you; and what you have provided, whose will it be? ... "

There are those who believe they have all the time in the world:

Time to become Christians
Time to take a ministry
Time to be a good husband and a good father
(Proverbs 27: 1) "... Do not boast about tomorrow; Because you do not know what the day will bring ... "

(James 4: 13-15) "... Come now! what you say: Today and tomorrow we will go to that city, and we will be there a year, and we will traffic, and we will win; 14 when you do not know what tomorrow will be. Because what is your life? It is certainly a mist that appears for a little while, and then fades away. 15 Instead of which you should say: If the Lord wants, we will live and we will do this or that ... "

We can not depend on tomorrow, because tomorrow may never arrive. What you have to do must do it today. Death arrives unexpectedly. This rich man believed that he had many years to live, because he did not even have 24 hours to live.

ILLUSTRATION:
I read about a man who took care of his health, took care of his eating, exercised and went regularly to the doctor. But when he least expected it, he was run over and killed by a truck.

Death arrives unexpectedly. How about tonight they come to ask for your soul? Would your soul be ready?

(Matthew 16:26) "... For what will it profit a man, if he will gain the whole world, and lose his soul? Or what reward will a man give for his soul? ... "

According to this text, the soul is the most valuable thing that you and I have. If our soul is lost, everything is lost

Reflection:

May God help us not to make the same mistakes that this successful businessman made:

  1. HAD THE VALUES IN THE BACK

  2. IT WAS SELFISH

  3. I BELIEVED THAT MAN ONLY WOULD LIVE BREAD

  4. BELIEVED THAT HE COUNTED MANY YEARS LATER TO LIVE AND PROSPER

(2 Corinthians 6: 2) "... For he says: In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you. Here now is the acceptable time; here now is the day of salvation ... "

Unlike the rich fool, we must be ready at all times. Not only could our death occur at any time, the Lord could return at any moment as well. God bless you Taty17!

The parable of the rich fool serves as a warning for us. Rather than focusing all of our attention on the temporal things of this life, we must make spiritual things a priority. thanks

What is your priority is it the kingdom of heaven or the things of the world, Is written in the Bible that we must love the things of the world more than God, the Bible says (Psalm 49: 16-17) "... Do not be afraid when one is enriched, When the glory of his house increases; 17 For when he dies he will take nothing away, and his glory will not descend after him ... " Ask yourself where am I going if I die today? Are you chasing life after life or death ,(Job 1:21) "... and said: Naked I came out of my mother's womb, and naked I will go back there. Jehovah gave, and Jehovah took away; may the name of Jehovah be blessed ... " think about it.. Thanks

I enjoyed reading this part "2 Corinthians 6: 2) "... For he says: In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you. Here now is the acceptable time; here now is the day of salvation ... "

Great message @taty17 indeed there are lot of lessons to learn from the parable of the rich fool.

All this we kill ourselves for are all vanity, we dont leave this world with any of them...why not we then strive to build our treasures in heaven where we tend to enjoy it the most eternally....our time in this world is limited but eternal life is unimaginable...no end..so why not make the right decisions when the time is still right

This message indicated to us that all is vanity and he'll not judge us based on what we possess.

I see very poor people sometimes that have more wealth than the wealthiest in earthly possessions. True riches are to have your sins forgiven.
The rich person first has
Faith in Jesus Christ
Has Family
Has Friends
Great post as always!
Thanks
Daddy William

inspiring post to focus the word of God which last forever more than the material things which are going to fade away like flower! thanks for sharing

Our priority as Christians is to seek the Kingdom of God first as the Bible has said and all other things shall be added unto us.

Great article, thanks.

Riches does not guarantee a place in the kingdom of God.......
Serve the Lord
