THE PARABLE OF THE PERSISTENT WIDOW: LUKE 18: 1-8

in steemchurch •  7 years ago

Background:

The story is about a widow who wanted a bad judge to help her get justice. The judge, being bad, didn't want to, but the woman was so persistent that the judge had no choice but to help.

Moral:

God can be like that judge. Sometimes, you ask a favour of Him, and He seems to ignore you. You don't just throw in the towel and declare you request a lost cause. First, you have to check if what you want is truly right (you can't ask God to kill a person and expect Him to do it). If it is right -- at least your conscience says so -- just keep asking. However, you must also understand that God is not a tool. He is the ultimate power; so, if He chooses not to ever grant it, He wouldn't. That is what happened with David's sick child (2 Samuel 12:16-18). This is why Job asked, "Who could judge between us?" (Job 9:33). This is where faith and hope come in. The Catholic Church, for example, says hope and faith are supernatural gifts. That is to show how central they are to the Christian faith. In a nutshell, just keep praying and hoping, and have faith in God that He will continue to make everything work out for those who trust in Him (Romans 8: 28)
