- (Second chapter)
"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth" (Mt 5: 5).
In the first instance, any application of violence is condemned. However, as we have already seen in the previous beatitude, the Lord wants to first heal our heart because He wants us to be happy. Just look at another word of Jesus and we will realize what he is talking about: "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Mt 11:29). ).
Another translation: "Blessed are the suffering, for they will inherit the earth" for all eternity. Here we take a step forward because, if by true poverty we are freed from what hinders us, with patience we penetrate more deeply into the designs of God, expelling from within all bitterness, irritability and any imprudence ... For the peaceful nothing is bitter. That for those who are good, everything is also good, comes from its good and pure background ... The one who is peaceful owns the land and stays in that peace whatever comes. But if you do not act like that, you will lose that virtue and, at the same time, your peace, and you can say that you are a grump and compare yourself to a furious dog.
Especially facing that word is the temptation to say: "I am not Christ". Then it is necessary to remember how God acts in our being. Since baptism, as we know, our body has become a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 16:19). The Holy Spirit bears witness that we are children of God (Rm 8, 16) and that he works in us (Rm 8, 26). And we are called to reproduce in us the image of Jesus Christ; whom he predestined, called, justified and glorified (Rm 8, 29-30). It means that God in his love and with his grace is present and works within us through the Holy Spirit. So why are we not perfect, although we should be perfect according to the Gospel (Mt 5:48)? It is that God has a deep respect for our freedom. It will never force us or force us to do something. And on his part he has done everything necessary to help us: he has created the universe and the men; as men enter into sin, they have made a history of salvation; and in the fullness of time he has sent his only Son to become man to bear the sins of all men; He crashed our sins on the Cross in his death; and God has raised him up so that we may have eternal life in him; He has instituted the Church to teach us to know him, love him and be happy; he gives us his word to teach us in the strength of this word that we can do his will; in the Church he gives us the sacraments to give us eternal life and strengthen us for daily combat; God speaks to us in our history by the events where he is present at every moment; He also speaks to us through the voice of our conscience.
And in front of all this kindness tragedy. All this, everything that we have enumerated previously disappears into nothing when we in our freedom decide to say "no". And the most irrevocable "no" to God is sin. But even at this moment he wants to help us, because no one is tested over his strength (1 Cor 10, 13). God wants to act through you, to love through you. And this is achieved through a permanent process that never ends because we always need to learn each day again to obey God. So it is not worth saying: "I am not Jesus Christ". Yes, you are, it is in you. Do you remember another word of Jesus ?: "What they have done to the youngest of my brothers, they have done to me" (Mt 25, 40). It is also in the other.
It is not worth any excuse.
And now let us once again let the saints and the wise explain this bliss. Is it enough to be simple and to get away from evil? Listen to what God says When I contented myself with simplicity and turned away from evil, I would still moderate my habits. What would it profit me to lack the goods of the earth if it were not meek? Therefore, Jesus with all success continues: "Blessed are the meek, but how are the meek?" Mansos are those who yield even to unfair demands, do not resist evil and overcome bad actions with good ones. St. Ambrose: Calm your emotion so that you do not get angry, and if you ever get upset, do not sin, it is very laudable to moderate the alteration with reflection and it is not a minor virtue to control anger than to be angry, because when this is commonly more manageable, the other is more valued. That is, if you are "phosphorous", that of being meek has much more merit before God, it also helps us to better understand bliss, those who are not meek and fight for temporary things fight. but the humble will always be blessed, because they will inherit a land from which no one can throw them, that land of which it is said in the psalm: "My wealth is in the land of the living" (Ps 140, 6). certain stability the eternal inheritance, where the soul rests on good affection as in its own place. Just as the body rests on the earth and from there it draws its food, the same eternal inheritance is the rest and life of the saints.
The Lord offers to the meek the possession of the earth, that is, of his body, the one that he himself took. And as through the meekness of our heart Jesus Christ dwells in us, when this happens, we are also adorned with the glory of his body.
It can be said in summary: The meek ones, who possessed themselves, will possess the inheritance of the Father in the future life. And more is to have to have, since many things that we have we lose them instantly.
Specifically: not resisting evil, not murmuring or judging, in short, offering the other cheek.
"Be meek because the meek will inherit the earth" (Mt 5: 5). He becomes patient, merciful without malice, peaceful, good, trembling because of all the words he has heard. Do not exalt yourself or even admit your arrogance to your soul or your soul to the arrogant but live / be associated with the righteous and humble. Welcome them as good things to the events (1 Cor 12, 6) that happen to you, knowing that nothing happens to God "
