“Respect is knowing that there is always someone other than yourself who is smarter and more capable no matter the size, race, or creed.” -klanklareaux

Respect is knowing yourself and your capabilities and limitations as a unique individual and with that knowledge assess where you stand as compared to the other guy.

Respect does not constitute conceding to someone’s own beliefs or principles; it does not involve debasing yourself and compromise your own principles or your abilities. It is accepting the fact that as an individual you uphold ideals, possess powers, abhor cruelty and inequality which may or may not be collectively acceptable by another individual, a group, or community and still maintain your integrity and yet withhold hostility.

So we welcome the diversity of opinions whether we agree or not. We do not violently react nor shoot insults to those we disagree with. We accept the fact that the opinion of others is influenced by their beliefs, capabilities, and limitations. Much like your opinion is influenced by your own beliefs, capabilities, and limitations.

Respect is knowing that policies, standards, rules, regulations, laws and the like are in place to uphold order and peace within the community. Submitting yourself to these constraints shows you know where you stand and you understand their purpose of existence.

Application

Our main interaction with each other is through the posts we submit. Our posts somehow reflect who we are, what we know, where we come from, and where we are heading. In the spirit of collaboration, support for one another and respect for each other will determine our success in SteemIt.

We need to consider every action we take before giving any re-action. How we show respect to others reflect how deep is our respect for our own selves. Our honor and dignity, the pride and confidence in ourselves should also be evident as we show respect to other people.

Share your thoughts here. I would love to hear from you.

I think if you do unto others how you would have them do unto you, you'll never go wrong! All we can control is our actions, so if we give respect, others will feel inclined to reciprocate. Good post!

Thanks for your kind words @raiderredjd. The good begins with us. We'll never go wrong with that.
