Our Blessing

As a newly wed couple, It is ecstatic to be given a wonderful blessing, a bundle of joy, a sweet little baby boy whom we considered a rainbow baby since we had him after a miscarriage.

David Ysrael Elpedes, our son, was born last July 22, 2016 via CS.
We named him after the name of a brave and strong
King who once ruled Israel.

A man before God's own heart.

Our happiness reaches heaven when we first set our eyes on him. He is such a cutie patootie bouncing 3500g baby.
However, turn out of events challenge our strength and faith, David has to stay at the hospital longer after birth because at first, he had jaundiced due to ABO incompatibility, followed by pneumonia on the 2nd day and the most overwhelming news, a "murmur" was heard on his chest. We immediately transferred to another hospital facility to have his condition be assessed better.

Our Challenge

As parents, we are praying for the wellness of our son, but the most heart breaking diagnosis was disclosed to us. Baby David has congenital heart disease as what was revealed in his 2D Echo result. Not only one but THREE defects were seen. Namely, Coarctation of the Aorta (COA), Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) and Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) were the defects noted.

Coarctation of the aorta (or COA) is a congenital defect, meaning that someone is born with it. About 1 in 100 children is born with a heart problem, and coarctation represents about 8% of those cases.
PDA is a condition in which the ductus arteriosus does not close. The word "patent" means open. The ductus arteriosus is a blood vessel that allows blood to go around the baby's lungs before birth.
VSD is a hole in the septum (the wall) between the lower chambers of the heart (the ventricles). It is the most common type of heart malformation (congenital heart disease).
Doctors don't know for sure why certain people are born with this conditions.

Coarctation of the aorta can be repaired either by surgery or other procedures. For Baby David, the doctors require surgery to repair the defects and VSD requires open heart surgery.
Since immediate repair is needed for the coarctation of aorta, David has underwent his 1st surgery (repair of Coarctation of the Aorta and Pulmonary artery banding) when he was just 10 days old to augment his life.

Our Hope

God is Indeed blessing our baby with strength. His operation was successfully done last August 1, 2016 and He got discharged from the hospital last Aug. 8 and is now recovering well.

Though our medical expenses piled up to P670,000.00, generous hearts of people help us get through this first phase.

However, David is again due for another surgery (maybe after 6 mos, depends on David's status) which is for the closing of his Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). Roughly, the cost for this procedure is P800,000.00 to 1 million pesos(estimate).

We are humbly knocking to your heart for prayers and financial support for our baby.
Kids who have CHD can expect to live a normal life after treatment. Please help us give Baby David a treatment he badly needs. As parents, we like and love to see him grow and live a normal life.
