so for my second application today for comms and in times of emergency i'd have to throw this one in there as well because this works WITHOUT internet connectivity and uses peer-to-peer bluetooth (line of sight/mesh style) connections to chat to each other -- could be useful if cell towers go down or power goes out
FireChat is a free peer-to-peer messaging app that works with or without Internet access or cellular data to send text and images.
a good application to maybe suggest to people in your street or neighbourhood, maybe setup a meetup.com and invite people together to use it so they know how to use it in an emergency to keep connected and come together with the resources you have between you, you never know it might save a life.

Awesome! I have always looked forward to a time we wont disturb ourselves over data. And this is becoming a reality with a Bluetooth connectivity. This will save us many things if others adopt this method.
