MintBox Mini 2 & Fitlet 2
fanless IOT low power, perfect for digital nomad van life!

Description
MintBox intention is to provide out-of-the-box user-friendly Linux experience on a small and robust PC
i'm super into low powered, rugged and fanless computers that just do what they need to do and keep out of the way -- the low power requirements for this one make it great for running in the van with solar panels and some good deep cycle batteries.
because it's linux you can expect a solid, fairly speedy experience on it too, don't expect to do gaming on this thing but if you need something solid for mobile van life (i'm kinda thinking electric vans here, caravans, rv on the road) then this could be the one for you, remember it's silent, no fans and can take a beating too.

The hardware and housing of fitlet2 are designed together from the ground-up to minimize size and maximize capabilities, durability and thermal performance.

how ya mean? well i'm sure they have a flavour of linux they use, chuck on a cheap tft 11" screen from amazon, wireless mouse and keyboard (logitech) -- if ya wanna be offgrid as such to power it, some nice deep cycle yausi batteries and a solar panel and run it off that (straight or inverter) not a lot really to get it going, seems it does'nt use a lot of panel. read the spec sheet for more.

I use a step down (buck) converter to step down my 12V battery bank to 5V and power all of my Raspberry Pi computers from that. The good thing about a buck is the input can vary (ie.11.8-14.5) during charge cycle of 12V AGM or lead acid.

ok, that's good to know. do you have a link to the one that you use?

I use this one for set and forget:

I use a couple of these for when I want to monitor output:

Remember that USB cheap USB cables can have a lot of voltage drop.

Are you going to install this computer in a van? That would be a good post to see the process! I have been playing around with my raspberry pi 3 for a few weeks and am enjoying the single board computer experience!

yeah exactly. i have raspberry pi's all over the van, mainly for cctv but this looks like something i could run in the van and in a mobile van/engine/battery -- saving my pennies! :)

It would be cool to have something dedicated for DC that doesn't have to have anything added to it to make it work. Have you explored windows IOT operating system?

nope, i've been waiting for the right hardware and i certainly want it to be something embedded and ideally runnin a unix/linux base. when you say something dedicated for DC that does'nt have anything added to it what do you mean exactly, maybe there is something else i've seen that helps you.

I have thought about playing around with Windows on the pi but it doesn't seem like such a good fit.
I've seen projects for the raspberry pi where people make touch screen computers, and have to add something to convert the pi so it runs on DC...but I could honestly be missremembering that haha.

hmmm, ok weird. there is so much out there these days to get it working the way you want it.

I forgot to add they use the touchscreen and pi combo in a car. It's pretty amazing the diversity of projects you can use a pi or an arduino for.
