A Relaxing Evening with my Valentine

This may not seem terribly exciting but this is how my wife and I celebrated our 6th Valentine's day together yesterday and it was perfect for us.

We were both exhausted from the first few days of the work week / not enough sleep 3 nights in a row and both agreed to do the normal V Day stuff this weekend when there's more time. So we spent a quiet evening at home just enjoying each other's company and both fell asleep relatively early.

It's nice to be married to someone who understands what is truly important to a relationship and a marriage and the need for some down time when we are tired. And boy did we need that on this day.

Being together in the comfort of our own home and bedroom is one of the things I look forward to the most at the end of each day and this evening was no different than any other day but it was still special to us both.

Many couples (mostly newer ones) feel obligated to go out of their way to celebrate through material gifts and going out on the exact date of February 14, which is perfectly fine (whatever works is great). But my wife--she's very special and it's great to be on the same page as her and agree that our love is defined by commitment, understanding, mutual respect, and know and catering to the others' needs which we did last night (went to bed early and spent time relaxing together).

We will be doing a few things this weekend and of course some belated gift giving as I mentioned but as far as February 14 is concerned the flowers I got her and the quiet evening at home were plenty for both of us.

I feel like we both have a lot to be thankful for and she's right up at the top of the list of things I'm thankful for in my life. I'm not quite sure what we have even decided to do this weekend to belatedly celebrate the holiday but I am getting us tickets to see Corteo (a Cirque du Soleil show) which is coming to town here in a couple of months. That's my belated gift to her.

I hope all of you couples out there had a great Valentine's day (and all the single folks too). I know some people see it as a lame hallmark holiday but I think it's a nice opportunity to remind your loved one why you're together in the first place and that you still love and cherish that person.

So cheers to 6 years and many more to come! I love you @pretzelgirlsandy.

Such a sweet post and for me thats a greta way to spend Valentines to me the original idea of Valentines has been over taken by the commercial aspect of it,
To me the two of you being understanding supportive and together is what makes the day more special :)

Exactly, the material things aren't what's important, it's the relationship. I'm pretty lucky that my wife doesn't expect the moon and stars every year. A lot of women do. Sometimes we do go on a short trip or do something more but not this year.

Togetherness is more important than material things for sure I strongly believe

That's one sweet Valentines thought. You make a lovely pair together based on your posted picture. Happy V-day!;)

Thanks for reading and your kind words. Happy V-day to you as well!

It will be more fun to celebrate this weekend when you don't have to fight with all the crowds of other people doing the same thing!

Bingo! Exactly right. I picked up some dinner on my way home from work on V Day this week and as I was walking out of the restaurant with my carryout order I overheard the hostess telling people it'd be over an hour wait to get seated...And people were waiting that long!

Hah! What better way to celebrate your love for someone than by standing in line.

oh ! you guys look great together .. perfect :)
Cheers!

Thank you :)
