Allergic asthma (asthma allergic) is the most common type of asthma, reaching 90% of all asthma cases. Allergic asthma is an asthma that occurs due to allergic reactions in the body, which means asthma symptoms will appear as triggered by allergens.

Allergens are harmless substances in the environment, but will cause abnormal reactions in the allergic body. Generally, asthma that occurs in children is allergic asthma. Inhaling allergen substances such as dust, mold, pollen, animal dander, etc. will trigger the onset of symptoms or asthma attacks. [1]

Allergies are actually your immune system's way of fighting what it considers a foreign material that should not enter your body. The biological system that protects you against this disease releases a chemical called histamine that causes allergic symptoms. Nasal nose and sneezing are reactions to foreign substances.

Similarly, people with asthma experience a disturbance in their respiratory tract. As a result, the respiratory tract becomes inflamed, making it more sensitive to daily inhalants such as dust and pollen. Patients with asthma can experience symptoms throughout the year or seasonally, as in allergy sufferers. [2]

Causes of asthma

Actually the cause of this disease is not known yet, but there are some things that can trigger asthma.

Factor from Inside

  1. Derived disease
Asthma is a hereditary disease, for example if you know a friend or ready to have asthma, it is certain he inherited the disease from his parents and grandparents.

Factor from Outside

  1. Environment
Environment is one of the factors that cause asthma. If you have this disease and are often in a dusty environment, dirty and less comfortable then asthma is more easily triggered so for those of you who suffer from this disease should pay more attention to the environment around you. For example, children who have this disease, try not to play animals like cats, or other animals that have fine hairs. Keep away from the dolls that have the fluff like the animal I mentioned earlier.

  2. Food and Drink
Food and drink can also trigger a recurrence of asthma. Some foods are very bad and not recommended for people with asthma, foods that contain high MSG, contain preservatives, beverages that are cold.

  3. Cold air
Cold air is one of the triggers of asthma. For example, room air conditioning is too cold can also trigger asthma. Driving a motor vehicle at night without wearing a jacket is also very dangerous for people with this disease. [3]

Allergy-induced asthma

Allergic asthma is triggered by allergens, which are very small in size and are easy to breathe in while breathing. [4]

Allergens that can trigger asthma as follows:

  • Pollen, usually carried by wind from trees, grass and so on.
  • Mushrooms
  • Animal fur
  • Dust and small animal dung, such as termites and cockroaches
Furthermore, allergic asthma sufferers may also have asthma attacks through common asthma triggers:
  • Cigarette smoke
  • Smoke from fire, incense, mosquito repellent, and fireworks
  • Cold air
  • A strong smell of chemicals, such as perfumes, and
  • Fatigue

How to overcome asthma caused by allergies

To combat asthma attacks caused by allergens, asthma sufferers should avoid as much as possible from the allergen. Taking drugs that are useful to reduce allergies also need to be done to reduce the frequency of asthma attacks due to allergens. The first type of drug is Omalizumab (Xolair). This drug is given in the form of injection that is injected every two to four months. Omalizumab useful to improve the immune system so not easily attacked by allergies.

Anti-allergy or immunotherapy injections are also believed to overcome the attacks of asthma caused by allergies. These injections are usually given once a week for several months; and then once a month for three to five years. However, doing anti-allergy injections in the long term can weaken the reaction of the immune system to certain allergens. Antihistamine and decongestants as well as corticosteroids and cromolyn used spray are also an option to reduce the risk of asthma attacks due to allergies. [5]
