We are entering the fourth week of our film competition Bitfilm of the Day - a good time for a recap. In short, we are happy with the feedback so far, but not with the generated revenues, so we need to find sponsors to keep the competiton going.
The reactions to our competition in the comments and in private messages have been overwhelmingly positive. Cointelegraph wrote a nice article about it. We have a presence on Filmfreeway.org, a platform film makers use to submit their films to festivals. This has already brought us nearly 200 film submissions, with new films coming in every day from all over the world. I suppose that many of the film makers have heard about Steemit for the first time through this.
Now let's have a look at the statistics:
Votes of the five selected films added up:
- Week 1: 170 votes
- Week 2: 102 votes
- Week 3: 188 votes
Total Steem Dollars collected:
- Week 1: 68.12
- Week 2: 22.78
- Week 3: 41.87
This means that the average prize money of the winning film was about 30 Steem Dollars (70% of the generated revenues) and the average income of the curator in charge of the competition was about 13 Steem Dollars (30%) for a whole week.
This is obviously not very satisfying, nor for the film makers nor for the curators. It is OK in the beginning, but if we want to be attractive for film makers, we need to show them that their films are watched by many people and that they can win good money through Steemit. This means: the amount of votes and the generated prize money has to grow significantly in the near future.

The work the curators put into this will grow, too. So far we have mostly shown award winners and popular films of past editions of our Bitfilm Festival, but what we really want is a competition of new films. We are currently watching hundreds of film submissions and have to select the ones that work well online. We need to contact the film makers, write short intro texts about the films and put a new film online every week day.
In the long run this amount of work can only be done if our curators get some money for it. Therefore our goal is to win some whales as sponsors of our competition. As a sponsor you would commit to upvote the films every day, so you would not influence the results, but make sure both film makers and curators get paid regularly.
Of course we would mention you or your company on the Bitfilm of the Day pages and offer you a prominent name or logo placement.
If you are a whale and you want to support our competition, or if you know one who could be interested, please contact us. Alternatively, you can contact me in the Steemit Chat, I am @aaronkoenig there as well.
Very interesting project. Will be watching to see how this comes out for sure...
